what help the most is just saying there's nothing I can do about it that's the way it is,

Original Gear: XXL 3/4 helmet. No ear protection. I am actually an XL, not a XXL, so too much wind was getting Into the helmet.
Modification #1: Bought a pair of ear plugs form a company Called Heres. These do not do the job of quieting the wind noise or the pipes. Trouble getting the right fit on the ear. They would not seemingly not stay in place. Didn't work as I was expecting.
Modification #2: Bought a Harley Capstone III Full Face XL Modular helmet. This reduced the wind noise significantly.
Modification #3: Went to Cycle Gear, explained them my problem and the lady suggested these foam ear plugs from a company called Motolis, like the ones to roll down so that you can insert them into your ear canal then then they slowly expand. These reduced the engine noise significantly -- if you can get them in properly. But once you get them in properly, your pipe noise is significantly reduced. And they are much better then the $50 plugs form Heres. These plugs are reddish in color and are similar in shape to the orange ones you can buy at your local CVS drug store. The package I bought came with a set of 5 pairs with a black circular tube they will carry1 pair of them. These things are worth every penny spent on them.
So now it appears that all my problems ae solved, except I'd like to reduce the noise going from there pipes. But for now we're good to go.
My Test: Just came back from a 1250+ mile round trip ride from Boston to Pittsburgh and back over 5 days. I started with the plugs from Heres for the first 100-200 miles. Not good enough. Then I tried the Motolis plugs. World of difference.
Good luck to everyone experiencing Tinitus.
Jim

Great post and detail.
From a fellow constant ringing in the head rider. Ringing now as I sit in my quiet house typing this. How on earth do we just live it?......oh ya there is no cure. Like you I did my ears in with concerts, I added in guns and loud bikes to really get the ringing up a notch.
Bought one for my wife. I wanted one.. but my next helmet must be a Snell 2025 rated helmet and it doesnt have that rating. I dont believe in Snell ratings truthfully.. I am in the camp that Snell rated helmets cause more head trauma and neck snaps because they dont give as much as DOT or ECE but that dumb rating is now required by most tracks and AHDRA.

I ride with ear plug now, but the horses are already out of the barn. But protect what you have left.
Most major cities have places for custom fitted ear plugs. I had a set for years. Those worked the best, had the most comfort, and lasted 20 years. At that sound reduction I could still hear everything, just at a lower level which took getting used to.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
The K6 S was a Medium and the Shoei a Large. The RF1400 was a major bobble-head look; the K6 S looked better.
Shoei will be $100 off for Black Friday.
Probably going to go with the K6 S.
Just go to the gun section at Walmart, Dicks, Bass Pro etc and you can get a large jar of foam ear plugs for cheap or any level of ear protection for much cheaper than looking at a motorcycle supply store.
