Default Looking for upgrade ideas

I'm starting to plan my winter mechanical upgrades/imrovments for my new to me (june) '01 Road King.

Upgrades so far are A/C, PC III USB, and Bassani Tru Dual headers with reverse megaphone slip-on's and I'm picking up a Sundowner 2 up seat Saturday (8 Sept.)

Things I'm considering are, ride-str8, upgrading the brakes, and possibly replacing my 15" (mini) apes with some 18" or 20" bars.

I'm not looking for a monster bagger, yet, but general performance and handling refinements any and all input is appreciated.

TIA

If it's a winter project.... Put in a 95CI kit... They'll walk all over the new 96" hands down!!!

I would consider going to gear drive cams using the Andrews 26G. Go 95" if budget allows, the cams will work great with stock heads in either 88" or 95".

With the 3.37 ratio of your 2001 a six speed transmission is something you might enjoy. I have one on my 2001 Roadking Classic. It is an expensive upgrade for sure but it does make for a nice combination of strong acceleration and smoother highway cruising speeds.

I have 18" apes, and love them. I am 6'1" and the grips are right at shoulder height. I would not recommend having your hands above your shoulders. Also, before going up in height, sheck the local laws in regard to allowable height. Also, check the states that you think you might want to visit, at some point. I doubt you would be pulled over for just having high bars, but better to be sure, before you spend the cash.

The Andrews 26G add to the low and mid range, which is what I'm looking for, is there a hit to the high end?

Damn, I just priced the 6 speed gear set (2K) and that's almost my total parts budget for this winter, that may have to go to next winter's list
