There is a learning curve in all aspects of it.

ignorant doesn’t mean stupid.. just means nobody told you before… and recognizing and asking is humility and that’s even better because humble people end up a lot less stupid about things that matter in my opinion. Probably most of us started out with Jap bikes before going Harley, I did.

You’ll catch on to the phrases acronyms and such.. When I joined this forum it was because I bought my first EVO and I’m still asking questions and there’s still a lot different from my shovels. People would say FXSTS, FXDWG, FLHRCI…. and I didn’t understand. Use to make fun of that kinda talk… and oh did I have fun with Stage whatever and Screaming Chicken… none of that made sense to my Shovel ways.

I pulled my daughter's Kawasaki Ninja out of my shed after sitting for about 4 years. As many have said above, yes, mice had worked on it for some of that time, she did nothing with it, fuel stabilizer or anything, before she out it away. She told me she wanted to sell it, I'm not a mechanic either, but I wanted to help her anyway I could.
I got lucky, drained the tank, changed the oil, fixed some broken parts, windshield, one of the mirrors was missing. I spent a good deal of time cleaning it up, lube the chain and most all moving parts. The wires were a mess from the mice, I took one at a time started under the seat, used liquid electrical on some of it, soldered some pieces where they were missing completely on others and traced them back to wherever they went to be sure I got it all. I'll be damned if it didn't fire up after that. It sounded like ****, so I changed the spark plugs, filled the tank with premium fuel and a can of seafoam. I posted it on craigslist for $2800 with the understanding that it likely needed tires, and got that for it. Come to find out she only paid $3000 for it 6-7 years prior, so she did alright. It was kind of a fun project for me and I learned some things.
If you're willing to take it on as a project, do it. Take your time, follow the advice above, there's a lot of experience here!

What happened to the op?
This will probably be my last post on this thread. Sell the bike before it gets worse. Buy a low mileage twin cam in good shape on the cheap. As previously mentioned I do see a lot of them here in Central Florida marketplace and Craigslist. Motorcycles do help with depression. A side note I was surprised to see old Kawasaki gpzs holding value.
