Had mine for about 6 years now. Back then I paid $100. No regrets. Easy to clean and quality part.

I ordered mine through DK Customs.

I have run them for over a year now on both bikes.

I'm very pleased with them. They look nice and are easy to take off and on. I did order replacement gaskets from Dennis Kirk, I think it was a pak of 10 each.

I've reused the gaskets up to three times without issue.

No, I do not think you wasted your money.

I'll have one on my '08 Heritage when I get to Michigan for the summer (indie is installing it) so I'll get some first hand knowledge then. It will look great with my DK Custom filter relocation and will surely provide some added cooling benefit too.

I found a video that explains the multitude of advantages to these new fangled reusable filters. I didn't even know about a lot of them. The Harley racing team had to start using them because the stock paper element filters were bypassing so much oil the piston jets were getting clogged and they were blowing engines. It's a very interesting and informative video. I feel much better using one of these after upgrading my oil pump and cam.

$16.95 for a black filter and $19.95 for chrome for our 2 old Softails at my dealer yesterday. With my usual yearly mileage I generally change the oil every spring and call it good. So even though the filter prices are a bit steep in my opinion I'll probably maintain my routine or see if I can find comparable quality filters for less.
Lots of information to sort through online. Hard to tell what's BS and what's not. Some claim that HD lets their brand go to the high bidder filter maker but quality is low. Others claim to have bought new HD filters and cut them open to see and say that they're very good quality. Who in hell knows where the truth lies?

FWIW....

I've been exclusively using HifloFiltro oil filters on my 3 softails and 2 baggers.....

They have other versions, but their HF171CRC is their chrome race filter, which has the 17mm nut on the end. They are available from amazon for $11.58 ($15.95 list). They also have black, and filters without the 17mm nut on the end.

HifloFiltro is a premium worldwide power sports filter supplier. They were the original manufacturers for K&N when they introduced the HD filter with the 17mm nut on the end. K&N switched suppliers around 2016ish and had some quality control issues. At that time I switched to HifloFiltro, which are even cheaper than the K&N, and haven't looked back. Since I stopped using K&N, I have heard a rumor they went back to having HifloFiltro make their filters again, but I haven't bothered to check the validity of that rumor.

I added them to my cross reference list. I have several brands/part numbers on it now. Here's the site I used for filter cross reference: https://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/
Word is that Champion Laboratories makes HD filters and has a good reputation.

I never had an issue with HD filters...

Well, other than the price, and my closest dealer always marks up parts & accessories from HD list price. I refuse to support anyone who does that....

I actually only used K&N once or twice, and really liked the 17mm nut on the end. I was tired of working around the crank position sensor..

Then I read about their manufacturer change and the issues the new manufacturer filters were having.... there was a thread about it on Harley Tech Talk. They pointed out the issues and how to tell the difference between the HifloFiltro K&N filters and newer manufacturer filters. I found out an extra K&N filter I had in the parts cabinet was actually one of the newer ones...

That's when I first looked into HifloFiltro and decided to go with them over K&N or HD..... I've since grown real fond of the 17mm nut...
