Why is this even as issue today? One just needs to download the maps to your SmartPhone. Your phone then behaves just like a SatNav device if you have the software loaded.

Default Skyline OS Missing Features

In January I bought a '26 Road Glide Limited, after having a '15 CVO Limited with a '22 Boom GTS infotainment system. I'm a road captain and avid user of Ride Planner. Frankly, I am appalled at the lack of user features/friendliness on the Skyline OS. Harley doesn't seem to know or care about these issues. Customer Care doesn't seem knowledgeable at all on any of these issues.

- No ability to change from heads up to north up (confirmed by HD Customer Care). If you zoom out far enough it does switch to north up.
- No ability to delete a way point (confirmed from HD Customer Care 4/1/26)
- Doesn't show the way point as you are approaching it.
- The icons for gas stations or other points of interest are very large and block out the view of the route
- The icons for POI's are not removable. You can't choose what POIs you want to display.
- The visibility of the route on any screen option other than high contrast mode is very poor. (except maybe at night)
- When downloading routes from Ride Planner using a cable, it doesn't save them all. I need to "Send to Bike" one at a time to get the ones I want.
- With BOOM GTS, you didn't need to connect the cable to the phone to download routes from Ride Planner.
- No longer supports Android Auto. Not Harley's fault, but the HD Navigation System is essentially useless. (I'm not switching to Apple Car Play.)
- Skyline requires too many clicks to get what was previously easy. It takes 5 clicks to stop a route. In almost all cases, it takes more clicks to do anything.

Does anyone have a contact at Harley that works in this area? I would love to have a discussion with one of the developers to understand where they are going with this system. Right now, thank goodness for Google Maps on my phone. What is working the best at the moment is putting just the destination in on the Skyline Nav and then using Google Maps for the turn-by-turn directions.

I'm interested to hear if there are others that are avid users or know some work arounds I haven't found yet.

Thanks

Use a different ride planner application, generate a GPX file and download it to your infotainment system.

I have a Zumo XT on my other bike and the manual that came with it covers everything.

I have used other route planning tools and have had good success with GPX files. The issue is more that the Skyline OS doesn't have the base set of features a user would expect. Example, being able to delete a waypoint is fundamental. Seeing a waypoint on the route as you approach it is fundamental. Skyline doesn't do those fundamental features.

GPS works everywhere, you just need to be sure to have maps pre-downloaded.

How to set your home address as home or a favorite? How to create and save a route? Where is the USB port for importing routes it mentions? What software do you use to create routes for importing? Not impressed.
I found quite a few tutorial videos on the Home | H-D Service Information Portal. To get the keyboard to come up, you have to touch the screen to enter information. I couldn't find a way to do it with the handlebar controls. To date, I am not finding much for the Skyline OS on the Navigation programming. Adding POI's while driving is also quite difficult. Too many clicks required. The Boom GTS system was much easier. I am very disappointed in the Skyline OS Navigation.
To create a route, use Harley Ride Planner, then it can be downloaded to the bike by either using the HD app on your phone, or putting on a USB flash drive and download via the USB-C cable in the device drawer. (bottom of the dash).

I have a Garmin Zumo XT2 on my other bike. It has it’s issues too if you want to create routes and have it stick to them.

So for the most part, I’ve figured this thing out by just pushing all the buttons and seeing what happens. I’ve installed the HD Ride Planner app on my iPad and iPhone. I create the route on my ipad, then send it to the bike via Bluetooth with my iPhone. The app is kind of clunky but eventually I can get it to create the route I want, however when sending it to the bike, the bike changes it a little bit. For example, the bike doesn’t want to take a particular exit. It either wants to pass it and then do a U-turn or turn early and go around it. I’ve found you have to double check each route after downloading to the bike by following with it with your fingers on the bike display, then going back to the app and moving the waypoints around and redownloading it. Pain in the ***, but eventually it works.

I have always used Garmin Automotive GPS units, buy the holder and plug it in. My current model is the Drivesmart 76 with a 7" screen. Does everything I need.
