We lost a MN PGRrider this past month, when they suffered a blowout on I-29 while pulling a trailer on the way to Sturgis. I hven't heard lately howhis wife is doing, but she was injured severely.

Do you know if the couple from your church had spokes or cast wheels? There are a lot of other variables as well, including which brake was used to bring the bike safely to a stop when a tire blows. Most often, the front brake will do this when a rear tire blows. It is much more difficult to control a bike when the front tire blows than when the rear gives out.

Sorry to hear about your friends. My God watch over the family they left behind and give them strength, and the knowledge that your friend now walks with the Lord in peace.

Please, take 1 minute to think about what they were wearing..

89% of the Harley Riders I ride with use / see , use a Cheap Open Face Helmet.
You could crash at 20 MPH and die with these cheap A@# Helmets

I have been Racing and Riding for over 30 years...

Proper Riding Gear: Full Face Helmet - "What's your head worth" I run Aria
Jacket: Full Rear / Front / Side Impact ArmorI runFirst Gear
Boots - Harley boots
Good Padded Street Pants , Not Levis -I run First Gear
Padded GlovesI run Hela , with padded knuckles

MyHead and Body Gearcost about $ 1,800.00 and I spend the same amount for myDaughter, plus add a neck brace.

Anywomen that I'm dating: Ihave them buy the proper riding equipment as well, or I will not allow them to ride with me.

A life is way to precious , and to be so careless as to ride with Cheap A@# riding equipment is just not right....

Some guys will spend $30k on a bike and$500 on the entire gear package

Life and Limbs are Priceless... think twice before spenda$1,000on "Bling Bling" is your body protected...

WOW! That is a lot of gear. When it is your time, it is your time. No full face helmet, fancy armor, pants, etc... will help that. People survive high speed crashes wearing flip flops and shorts, and some willdie after a low speed crash wearing a full face helmetand armor just because of the angle they hit an object at. While I understand what you are saying, I think that is a little bit overdone.Regardless, this thread certainly isn't the place to get into a riding safety gear debate. If there was one saving factor (ie which brake we use, spoke wheel vs. non-spoke, full face helmet vs novelty) for riders, I am sure everyone would use it. But there isn't.

Sorry to hear about your friends.

I'm all for getting as much protection as I can, but I don't think my leather jacket and full face helmet are going to help me if I go down at 60 or more.

hey track adaptor, i think i got you beat.

i have been wearing the following since 1980, (back in the 80's a full set of racing leathers i got in germany.
and since 1990's
a dainese racing leather suit with all the armor. in summer and when on a fast trip with fast riders on sports bikes.

in winter a dainese full armor riding suit with the armor replaced in areas where they are not properly secured and thus,
underneath i wear dainesse shoulder and arm/elbow armor
a knox back protector
a knox hip/thigh protector
shin protectors
full face x11
sidi race boots.

been down4 x ,one by a car sideswep
and the other a low side due to another car shooting out in front of me and i slided for 10 or 12 feet..
and the third a car hitting me on the left and i flew thru the air landing on my head/shoulders ,on purpose.i could have rolled but would have or could have broken my kneck.so while in mid-air i decided to throw a tackle to the fast approaching ground.
the 4th was dumb. at 5 mph making a u turn in miami i hit sand and before i knew it i was hitting the ground with the front of my helmet and left shoulder.

and zero injuries . except for some pain in the ribs and hard breathing for 4 weeks.this on the sand ,5mph fall.

whenever i get on a bike without all this stuff i feel naked and very foolish.
and yes ,on a harley i do wear all this and some laugh.

You do not need to worry about such things.if it happens it happens, however it is very rare.As long as you take care of your rubber it will take care of you.
