Is there some reason (other than perhaps with the SERT where it mates with the ECM) that any of the fuel management systems that work with the '07's won't work with an '08?

The reason the '07 fuel management systems won't work on the '08s is because of the internal throttles. At least that's my understanding. It's really sad that Harley didn't already have the SERT ready to be released when the '08s came out. They knew what changes were being made, so they should have jumped on creating the new software for the SERTs. They don't have ANY of the new SERTs out yet. It's pretty bad when the manufacturer of the bikes is the last to come out with a fuel management system for them.

I put Rush slip ons on my 08 Ultra just for some sound and i am very pleased. Harley said i would be fine as long as i don't change the air filter. Happy is me.

My H-D mechanics told me the same thing. Nothing required for slip-ons only. I'm thinking about putting the Rush slip-ons on my 08 Street Glide, but I hear that they are supper loud! Is this true? Any opinions?
Thanks,

Cheech

No not too loud. I have the 2" baffles. You can go down to the 1.75" baffle or I think you can get a 1.5". If you go 2.25 or 2.5 you need to look at fuel management.

Well, it sounds like the vote here is to wait it out. Well, not sure, I thought the PCIII was EOM September, but now it sounds like November. Crappers.... What the heck is the "factory download" and how is that different from the "SERT", I thought they were both just downloads, or can you actually continually tune the SERT?

So, "download" plus SE A/C and the pipes, and I should be ok, at least until the aftermarket catches up?

If you want that Harley sound, you can add slip-on now and it won't hurt anything. The problems occur when you add a free flow breather (more air) without adding more fuel (download or tuning device).
the difference between a download and a SERT is the download is a map that was made for a particular engine with specific mods.
I.E. - SE breather, SE pipes.
-SE breather, SE pipes, SE cams
- SE breather, SE pipes, SE big bore kit and SE cams
The downloads will always be a copy of the map HD used on to tune a bike they modified with SE parts. It is not tunable.
The SERT, PC III and other tuning devices are tunable. Generaly the stage one download which is the one at the top is commonly used on bikes with breather and slip-ons even if niether of them are HD.
the download will make you're bike run better and prevent damage by adding the fuel needed to richen the bike compensating for the extra air being sucked in through the freer flowing breather. It will have more power. The tune wil more than likely not be perfect , but, for the majority it is just fine.
The SERT will come with all the different downloads and those maps will be a starting point for a dyno guy to dial in a bike.
Hope this helps.

They wont work for several reasons, its a new ECM, with different plug, also you cant go with t-max because of the new ecm controlls throttle and cruise controll. 08 also has different throttle body 50mm now.

Was at my dealer today ( 9/16/2007 ) Service Dept. manager said he now has the SERT for 2008 models. I find it rather amusing that one mechanic says do not install even slip on mufflers without doing the SERT, PCIII or some other fuel managment while the next mechanic says if the only change that is made is the slip on mufflers then fuel managment isn't needed. I have a new set of Rinehart mufflers on the way and I'm installing them myself with out spending another $1200.00 for any type of fuel managment system and mapping. Not going to do any other changes but the mufflers. Hope all goes well and I don't BLOW it up!!!!

This Thursday (09/20), my dealer is installing Rinehart true duals, 103 kit, new cams, SE air cleaner, and whatever downloads are necessary, etc. They won't add the SERT because they say it invalidates the warranty. Every Dealer is different. Do I'll see how my 08 Ultraruns next week. I'll definitely report back.
