I did this myself in about 2 hours on my Road King and had never done it before. If you are mechanically inclined I say do it yourself it isn't hard at all.

I had the black powder coated front end installed on my Street Glide. They charged me 4.5 hours at the HD dealer. As an afterthought if I did it again I would find an independent shop. They are so much more reasonable than the dealers.

I'm thinking about having the H-D chrome front end package (part # 46335-04A) installed on my Road King. The local dealer says this is a five hour job. At $75 per hour, that's almost as much as the parts. Is this a reasonable time estimate for the installation?

Agreed. Did mine on my Evo in my driveway. Had never done anything even close to it before but thought I would give it a try and all went well. No leaks. Looked great. Probably going to do it on my Ultra this winter in the garage. Really not that hard. Like the engine build, take your time, have a manual nearby and read up on it before starting. Piece of cake.

I'm not familiar with the smooth axle. Is that in the Harley accessory book?

I agree just helped my dad do his flhx, not hard at all and im sure much easyer on a king. Had mine done at the dealer they do monthly specials only about $100 labor when you do it then, let them do mine but I would do it myself next time. ( this is if you have tools and the desire to do so a impact gun is a must)

Can't speak for the time to install; however I'll give another vote for the chrome forks. It makes a huge difference in theappearence of thefront end of the bike.

I had mine installed for $500 total. Dealer takes off 15% parts so it was around $120 for labor. They really dress up my Pearl

CLICK THIS LINK, get the flush mount axle from Puzzled. Heck of a price and nice guy to boot. I have one and love it!.

Chrome fork lowers for this winter project.
