I havea similar problem with my RK the bars are just a tad too short making me lean forward enough so that after an hour or so my lower back starts to talk to me.Have the new bars allpicked out.
thing to look for,in all of us aging fellas,,, a natural position, where your relaxed,
if you all of a sudden are putting your posture in a unatural position,, the aches and pains will appear!
Danny Gray bigseat and Chubby 502's. The seat will put you a couple of inches lower and further back, and Chubby 502's put your hands in a much more comfortable position, higher and closer to you. Everyone is different, but that combo works for me (6'2", 34" inseam).
Thanks to all for some great tips. I am putting the new Wild One bars on this weekend, and presuming I can get the thing internally wired and back together in one piece by monday, will be leaving the office early next Monday for an appointmentt with "Dr. Harley"...and hopefully enjoy the new set-up.
I am confident the new bars will be an improvement, and suspect that I was also feeling some effect of slouching and occaisionally holding the grips too tight.
It's great to be able to post and tap into the experience of countless miles and hours in the saddle from those here on the forums.
I agree with many of the others when they say: Bars, seat and back rest.
I also have the Wild 1's 518, a Mustang seat and sometimes I ride with the back rest. But one other important item is highway pegs. They let you change your position while you go down the road. I just finishedthe 1000/1500 Iron Butt ride and I never got sore once. But I think it was a combination of all of the parts working together. JMHO
I have a RK Custom and have had similar problems as khwatson. The bars on this bike are ok if you're just riding around town or short distance. Any ride over 100 miles starts getting a bit unconfortable. Anyway I've been researching new bars and have read about wild1s 508 or 518. This weekend I was atthe local HD dealership and was talking to the parts guys about this. They suggested I try Wild1s RK bars Chubby II. They carry these bars because of their popularity. Does anyone know if these are the same as 508 or 518?
If you're in your 50's, don't discount arthritis. The "high" handlebars of my RKC kill my left shoulder after an hour or so in the saddleand I need to lower them a tad.
Go ahead and laugh if you want.
Jim
Thanks redhwk44. Appreciate the info and website.I think these are the bars I'll be going with. HD dealership priced them at $199.00. I'll see how much it'll cost if I buy them direct. Thanks again!
Hey, I won't laugh, I got the same problem. Arthritis in the left shoulder. I'm looking for a Mustang seat now on Ebay and I may try lowering the bars slightly. I can't ride for more than an hour without my shoulder aching. Thanks for the tips.
