Be warned...don't believe what Rick writes. He trades his bike in for a new one as soon as the old one needs a wash. I'm still Jealous of the 08" deal he got!!
Back on thread...Craftsmen makes excellent torque wrenches. Spend a few extra bucks for good ones. It's money very well spent.
Thanks Spike, I was wondering how good they really were for $20 or so each.
I've had two Harbor Freight TQ wrenches (1/4" in/lb. and 3/8" ft/lb.) for probably 10 years and they've performed very well without any problems. I checked them for accuracy along with a $325 Snap-On and an ancient Torsen (non-clicker). The HF ft/lb wrench was within 1 lb. across its entire range, and the in/lb was dead-on at 100 in/lb (where I use it most). Neither the Snap-On nor Torsen were even close to being that accurate, and I ended up selling the Snap-On to someone on this forum for $150. Snap-On wanted $40 to calibrate it, but why did it need calibration at all, as it was used maybe twice? The HF were used hundreds of times before the accuracy checks.
The 3/8" HF wrench is now on sale for $10. It is guaranteed to Âą4% accuracy and has a lifetime warranty. This has to be the world's best tool deal. The smaller wrench is $29 and only occasionally goes on sale, but is still a bargain at the full price, IMO.
I haven't seen this item before, but can't imagine why you'd want to spend $80 for a wrench that is guaranteed Âą4%, exactly the same spec as their $10 wrench that doesn't require batteries. I don't see a warranty statement on the digital wrench, but the $10 clicker wrench has a lifetime warranty.
i use mine too often to but a cheaper model, i have a matco 1/4 dr in/lb, snap-on 3/8 dr in both in/lb & ft/lb, a snap-on 1/2 dr ft/lb, and the best one yet i have bought is my snap-on 3/8 drdigital techangle, does in/lb, ft/lb, nm & degreee's, i never have to worry about pulling a head stud again, it was worth the $405. it cost, pull a head stud and see how you feel then................
Guess the order fillers at Harbor Freight are gonna be wondering why there is an influx of orders for torque wrenches when they come in tomorrow monring.
Thanks iclick... hell for their prices and WITH a full lifetime warranty, it's hard to go wrong. If I were wrenching often, I'd opt for something else. But for the prices, that's the way I'll prolly go.
