Posse Rider
Sorry, I thought I posted with my 94 road king mentioned as the bike with the tire problems.
There is a slight difference between the tire and the inside of the fender, right side ( wear it is rubbing) I can hardly slide my fingers between, left side my fingers go right up.
When I lay on the floor looking up at the inside of the fender with a flashlight I can plainly see the bolt that is rubbing and on the other side the bolt is only about an 1/8th or so away from the tire so my thought is that the 140 is too big.

the mt90 -16 (130) is the correct tire 4 ur bike. the mu85 tire will cause the belt to make contact with your tire and cause a wearing of the sidewall + or final drive belt .
Ive used the mu85 (140)on my 03 ultra and this was the case. I called HD . They said they could only recommend the mt90 on my o3 Ultra. THEY ARE RIGHT !

Think about the reason why you want to switch to another brand i.e. better traction, wear etc... If you have one tire that is going to grip better, or worse, than another don't you think that might cause a problem? Different makes will flex, grip and just overall handle different others. When you have such small areas of contact keeping things upright I think it is wise to keep things the same on both ends. Everyone spends enough to buy these machines yet want to cheap out on matainance etc...

Hey Niel,
Thanks for your reply, I am not looking to change tires, but bought a bike with 2 different ones on there and just want to do the right thing for me #1 and the bike #2.
I have a 140 on there and it is tight to the fenders but actually does hit the shock bolt so my guess is that it should only have the 130 on it.
Thanks to all.

Hey Nick,
Thanks for confirming the size, I am not rubbing on the belt but over on the right shock bolt head. The bike may have been lowered by using shorter shocks which would not help me either. I am heavier then the guy I bought it from so I make it go down lower then him.
New bike to me and I am learning to figure all this stuff out as I go.

Interesting...every tire mfr ah've ever read warns against mixin' tires - ah think ah'll stick with the folks that do this stuff fer a livin'. Ah tend ta ride on the edge - an' lemme tell ya, different mfr's DO have different traction factors.
So youra sa'in one'll slip like owl poop and one'll grip lika tree frog....[sm=interesting.gif]instant dounuts...!!

I go through two rear tires to one front, so statistically I have ridden 50K miles with mismatched tires. It is certainly not dangerous. I have a Metzler on the front and a Dunlop on the back right now, and have for about 12K miles, which is much longer than I usually get from a rear tire. I'm sure that the tire manufacturers recommend matching tires. They'd much rather sell you two tires instead of one.

Now, rubbing, that should be addressed right away. Do what makes you comfortable.

Tires should match. Don't plug them. Eat all your vegetables. Wear a belt AND suspenders. Loud pipes save lives.... screw your neighbors. Wear a condom and don't have sex. Don't drink and drive. Obey all traffic signs. Say 'yes ma'am.' Step on a crack and break yo' mama's back. Consult an attorney.
