I am going to have a 1000 mile service done soon. My stealer says it won't affect the warranty to use other than Harley Synthetic. I am teetering back and forth between Mobil1 V-Twin and AMSOIL. What recommendations can be made for these two oils? And, What weights should I use for the three areas? What in the primary? What in the tranny? etc.? Thanks.
I use Amsoil or Mobil 1 V-twin 20/50 in the crank. I use Amsoil SVG 75/90 in the tranny (mobil 75/90 is just as good) and I use good old Formula + in the primary.
What about Lucas oil? My indy swears by it and just told me that he read a report about Harley's oil's, he said it was an independent study of motorcycle oiland Harley oil had good ratings on regular oil but totally bombed on the synthetic, worst they tested. It was printed in " Motorcycle consumer news" about a year ago. He uses Lucas in all his bikes and he has some nice ones. I'm gonna try it, all the way around and see if I like it, better yet see if the bike likes it. It's time for my 20k check up and a new drive belt. BDR
I use Amsoil 20w-50 in the engine, Amsoil SVR 75w-90 in the transmission, and formula + in the primary (which will be Amsoil 20w-50 after I run out of the formula + I have in the garage).
BUT, you have a trike kit, and I don't know if there is anything that specifically needs to be used for it (for the added weight, or whatever). You might want to check with the trike company. Also, an Amsoil rep told me about a SVR 75w-110 that they have for the transmission. I guess it is new, from what he said. Anyone here try it yet?

I currently use Redline's 20W-50 in the engine, MTL in the primary, and Shockproof Heavy in the tranny. Will likely change to Mobil 1 V-Twin for the engine next summer as it's easier to find (think Wal-Mart) than Amsoil and costs less than Amsoil or Redline.
One thing to think about- winter's coming on and you're in WA. If you'll be cranking up in temps much below 40 deg you'll want a 10W-40 in the engine...
I use Mobil 1 VT 20-50 in the engine and primary and Redline Severe in the tranny. 9500 miles in 4 months and no problems. I buy Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart for $53 a case (6 quarts) out the door. I like being able to but it at most any Wal-Mart when I'm on the road so I don't have to carry one with me. Buy the Redline at an Indy shop. I think the Mobil reduced the heat a little and the Redline reduced the noise and made shifting smoother and finding neutral easier. Just my .02!
