Default Detachable fairings and Radio settings

All,

I've been planning on adding a detachable fairing and in doing my research I was thinking about when the fairing is removed how does the aftermarket radio keep its time and presets? Anyone notice this and how did you get around it?

thanks in advance!!

on the 2008's with GPS and XM, the time and date stays after battery detach and hook up. Not sure that is the same for pre-08?

All,

I've been doing some research and maybe an electrical wiz can confirm, I found that with a 9volt batter attached to the memory lead it will retain its settings. Can anyone confirm?

If you have a detachable fairing with a Cig lighter, you can use the item in the link!

edit: AS long as the lighter outlet is hot all the time! (could be wired as such if not)

Thanks for the response! Do you know if there is any logic in that connector or is it just a 9v on the end of the cig adapter?

Thanks!!

1. Unless you wire it up, none of the detachable fairings will keep their presets
2. I'ts a mute point, once youput it on, you won't be taking it off....

No logic just a 9 volt battery on the hot wire to keep the memory live when it is not hooked to that bikes battery, but like Gunnert said. Most of the people that I know that have added after market "Removable" fairings added them and never took them back off.

True, been there, done that.

And as logic for battery, only polarity and thats it, may have a diode to keep any 12 volts from going back into battery an over juicing it (like charging it). 9 volts is just enough for keep alive of memory settings nothing else.

For that matter you could just wire one into the back side of the fairing an secure with velcro, don't forget the diode.
