My '04 EG police model's saddlebag guards and rails were removed about a year and a half ago when I put the SG rear fender/facia/LED light on the bike and removed the stock fender, bumper, pancake turn signal lights, etc.
I thought about adding the EG Standard guard, the HD Comfort guards (the ones with the oblique shape), or the SG/RG/RK Custom no guard or rails, and chose the no guard or rails option. No doubt there is a risk of greater damage to the paint if the bike goes down without the guards, but I prefer the look without the guards or rails.
I took them off of my 05 Ultra and added the saddlebag supports that do not have the holes the same as the CVO ultra like the look it cleans it up a lot and have thought of selling the stock supports and rails.
I use the vertical guards in front of the saddlebags to hook my bungee cords to when Ive got my sleeping bag, tent ect strapped on.Im glad they are there.
My 05 RK does not have the saddle bag guards and I love the look but must admit that I have to be carefull not to accidently back into something in my garage. I have squeezed through a few tight spaces in my travels and make sure to take extra care.
My 07 RK has the guards and I want to get rid of them. My wife rides with me and the guards are a constant source of irritation on her calves. So if anyone wants to trade.
Took them off my '01 RKC (put on RG saddlebag supports) more room for the wifes legs (shorter gal) and cleaner look..
My '07 RG doesn't have them - Like it that way!
