I have an 07 Ultra and it is the same way. I rode my buddies heritage softail and although his was a lot smoother sitting still my ultra was much more smooth going down the road no vib at all.
The first big harley I ever saw was an old police bike. It was sitting there vibrating so hard it was almost shaking the ground around it. That marked me for life. I still think that is the way a harley should idle. p.s. I like it.
To be technical, they both produce the same amount of power. It's just that spinning that out-of-balance shaft eats a couple ponies and its the difference between what's made and what's self-eaten that makes it out to the clutch basket.
It rocks on the rubber mounts at idle but that's the only place it does it. And she don't spend a whole lot of time at idle anyway.
Yes, the balancer will consume ponies and therefore, fuel. Why? Well DUH !! You're slinging some extra weights and chains around for each revolution of the engine.
The "B" motor is a good fit in my Heritage, but would not "be" in my Ultra.
I put on the Tmax tuner and the Rinehart true duals last week. Bike ran great. Next day I put on the IDS so I had to pull the mufflers back off. Two days later I got a terrible vibration and it started me freaking out. I read some of the vibration posts about the exhaust rubbing the frame. I left the house this morning and no vibration all the way to my local coffee hangout. I looked under the bike and the bracket on the muffler was almost hitting thebracket on the frame, maybe 1/8th clearance. Three minutes after I left the store it started vibrating again. When I got to work I looked at the bracket again it was rubbing on the bracket on the frame. I went home at lunch and loosened the bracket and used a mallet and drove the muffler in about 1/2" farther on the pipe. My muffler on the right side had slipped back and the muffler bracket was hitting the bracket on the frame under the bag. Problem solved. T.
I haven't logged on in a couple of weeks and appreciate the advice and comments. I had the bike dyno tuned last week and all I can say is WOW!!!! With the duals, PC III, big sucker and the tune, this is the bike I wanted when I bought it. The vibration has not worsened, and is maybe even less after the tune.Tune sheet showedan additional 8 HP and 10 Ftlbs of torque. To answer the comment about why didn't I test drive before I bought: I bought it through military sales while in Baghdad - One thing I admire about the MOCO - they support the military by offering a small discount. I only wish I had one to test drive over there. For all you OIF Vets - that's a sweet thought... A bagger with a SAW mounted on the bars? That'd be a nice surprise for the savages!

Cool. I hope you didn't take it as an insult; it wasn't meant that way.
