Hi Guys,I have just purchased a FLHTPI Police special on E Bay.Its in Colarado right now and I have to collect it.It is a State Troopers Bike and its Black and Silver,I know that it has uprated suspention and brakes and its a 1450cc.Thats about all i know on these bikes.Does anybody know the other differences these "Police" bikes have (apart from the single seat).
As some of you know I also have a 2005 Screemin Eagle elecra glide which is staying put.
I plan to ride the bike from Denver Colarado to Atlanta to my house, thats a long way.
I have followed you suggestions and have gained some valuable information. It seems that the engine at that time 1999 was a 1450cc and had the best components as it left the factory. The engines where usually picked for the best horsepower and build quality. This also went for the brakes ,twin front discs with harder wearing pads all round. And although the bike only had one rider the suspention was also uprated. All the electrics are heavy duty to take care of the extra lights and radio equipment.
Al in all I should not have any problem fitting other extras(lights ect) as most of the upgrading has been done. The bike was a State Trooper bike from Colarado and is Black/Silver with just under 40K miles,it has a few marks on it but I expected that,it was a working bike.
I will keep you all informed of my progress with it.
I am still taking my yellow SE to Daytona Bikeweek in Feb/March and hope to see many of you there (you will not miss me).
John
A few years back I came close to buying a police edition Road King. One of the things that I found out, was that the tires used on this particular bike were not to be used for two up riding. At least that is what the sales Mgr. at the dealer told me.
I heard that to Dave ,I am going to fit new tires with white walls as a must ,but will leeve the bike with one seat.I am looking at a lot of things to do but just may leeve the seat,it looks big and comfortable to me.It should do well on long journeys.
Infact I may have some done at Bikeweek,I have seen several guys have them done, more or less while you wait. I have been for a number of years to Bikeweek and usually if you wait until the end of the week, things get a little cheaper.
Yes, I have been told this about the police rubber also (no two up riding). The police tires have a beefed up bead that visibly sticks out from the rims, purpose being it allows the cop to ride on a flat tire without the tire bead breaking off the rim.
Now, I have two things to add. First, I rode two up with my stock police tires, and had no problems. Second, I got a rear flat with my stock police tire, and it allowed me to ride several miles to a gas station, so they do work!
