I have the Python slip ons . I used the OEM clamp from H-D and hung the clamps that came with the slip-on's on my peg board. Never know when they will come in handy.
Thanks everyone! The clamp is from HD, but I guess I should replace it since it has been off once to replace a tire, and I've loosened it to fix the ****** too!
Ive used them over and over several times, where you place it makes all the difference. 1/16 in. from the front lip does it.
I'll try that. Not sure just where they are right now, but I do know that I used a pipe with my socket wrench for added leverage. Thanks for the help!
My right side also loosened up on me. The first two times I just pushed it back in place and retightened it. This last time I took the slip-on completely off and removed the heat shield on the header to get a better look. With quite a bit of effort (more twisting and pushing), the muffler went about an inch or more further over the header. Retightened the clamp with the leading edge close to the muffler end and it has stayed in place.
From the marks on the header, it looked like it came from the factory with the muffler not fully inserted on the header.
once you lossen the clamps thats it midas well throw them away you tighten the crap out of them one time and thats it i was fed up took it to the dealer and they used the impact gunand that was it never came loose again.. only reason why they came loose in the first place cause i tried the slip ons from Bob V on Ebay and immed took them off lol. thentried to reuse the clamps wont work at all. need to get new clamp one time thats it
Had the same problem when I put the Ol' Samson's Slip-Ons on the new RG
After doing the same thing with the Muffler clamps a few times - found the problem was the rear muffler mounts (where it attaches to the saddlebag rails)... The muffler was not spaced right and every time the engine torqued it would not allow any movement and pull out just a bit... Put a couple of extra flat washers making sure the bracket was straight hit the rubber with a lil' WD40 and they haven't done it again since??? Just a thought...
