Nope. If they are installed correctly they do not let any heated air stay around the motor. When you are riding the heated air is forced down and to the back. I have RJ's on mine and I love them. One of the best first purchases I made.
The heat fix is an internal correction...AFR. Everything else is a Band-Aid. [8D] Buy a SERT, SE-A/C and some slip-on`s. Throw away/E-Bay the heat shields as you will no longer need them....JMO My 08 Ultra runs better and much cooler after the SERT calibration update.
Not as cool as my 07 FLHX with the DTT/WEGO IID system, but it`s not a problem on hot days like it was without it. It`s money well spent and it will help your motor live longer than some useless heat shield that traps heat.

Yea when your riding , but I was wondering about at idle or in heavy stop and go traffic, when there is no air forced thru there will they trap the heat? Just wondering.
Actually I found out that my R.J.'s actually help COOL my bike better !
Wife & I have 07's and they are setup just about EXACTLY the same.
Same oil cooler's, pipes, fork air baffleand fairing deflectors.
The ONLY difference is she is using the KuryAkyn heat shields and I am using R.J.'s
She even has lower fairings insatlled on her SG !
Every time I check the temps mine tend to be anywhere between 10 to 20 degress COOLER !
Just my observations ...
