if the PCIII fails and you have to ride, your bike will run too lean
If you stay in closed-loop mode you shouldn't do damage; just remember to re-connect the O2 sensors. I wouldn't dyno-run a bike that way but I wouldn't hesitate to cruise it home to get my stock airbox back 'til I decided what to do next.
I have never had this explained about the downloads.I understand it a little better now.I allready have the big sucker and the pc commander. So if I'm out on the road and have troubles with the pc,I'm in a boat without a paddle.Unless I'm close to a dealership.Well my question is now? should I get the HD stage 1 downloaded in mine?
I suspect most folks don't get the stage 1 download if they are running a PCIII. I did since I've had bad luck with my PCIII's. On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to get the download since maps are available with or without it. Just depends on what you want to do and how safe you want to be. You could probably do without it to begin with and see what happens. Most PCIII's don't fail, so you'd probably be just fine, and save yourself $175. On the other hand, you could get the download and not go with the PCIII and save yourself even more $$$. The download isn't tunable, but for my bike it runs just fine. I get right at 40 mpg with not popping. I had a little more pep with the PCIII, but my mpg was a little less too. Either way works.
Any and all help is great as long as it helps. I keep reading about tuners but the only one i found for the 08 is the sert at $750 at dealer and thats a little steep for me cause i have to hide purchasses like that. Guess i will have to wait. The only upgrade so far is slipons and other than decel popping which i am told by a few is ok and wont harm the engine it runs perfect. anyone know any different?

The SERT retails for $459 and is available several places for 20% off. I don't understand why your dealer would want $750 for it.
I called other dealers around and got the same price. $450-459. My dealer may have had a Blunt for lunch. The only reason i am considering the upgrade is hearing all the crap about running with just the slipons. To me the only drawback i see is the decel popping (which hunny bunny loves) and blueing of starboard pipe and i can live with both and be very happy knowing i am not doing any eng. damage. Tell me i am not doing eng damage with just slipons and i will go away peacefully. Thanks.
495.00 is the price but some dealers want to dino it for another cool 300+++....is the download still available....my dealers says no since they could get 700+++ for the fuel mgmt and dino....also there's a good article in Thunder Press Oct edition all about fuel managememt, various kinds, the good and bad of each that helped me decide....IMHO
