My broinlaw has been fighting the clutch on his '05 Road King Custom since it was new.Hard to pull in and tight and the bike just recently started to grind going into first.
Well I suggest to him to buy the clutch kit which was about $45 or so plus gaskets and oil.
I changed out the old ramps and clutch spring yesterday for him.I spent about 4 hrs. installing it and taking care of a couple other things.
Went for a test ride, noticed the clutch was a hell of a lot easier to pull in and had a good positive feel. The bike was still grinding going into first and I thought oh **** .now what?
Anyway the problem was the after mkt. shift rod where the heim joint connects to the front of the rod was screwed all the way in.When shifting into first the end of the rod(diameter portion)was hitting the vertical shift lever that comes out of the case in front. This was binding up and not allowing for a full shift sometimes.
Anyway I fixed that and shifts better than new.I would reccomend the clutch kit for anyone with a '05 and earlier tourer.
