I first rented a Softail Classic and rode all day with the wife. She had to stop and stretch and work out the kinks every 50 miles. Next I rented an Ultra and rode all day again. She never complained and even fell asleep while riding. I think if it were just me, I would have a RK Classic but for 2 up comfortable cruising the Ultra does the trick.
My wife rides with me about 75% of the time and we doa lot of 3 day trips with friends. the best ride for her is the UC. I always wear a helmet, jacket and gloves and like the storage on the bike for my riding gear. When i ride to work, i carry my shoes in the saddlebags. The other couples have a UC and GW, like the CB when we travel, makes it much easier.
If you want an Ultra take her with you and let her sit on one and she will pick it for you. Otherwise get what you want so you don't have to say i should have..... You only live once.
I rented every bike I was interested in before I finally bought my '05 rk custom. The rk custom is no longer available in '08, but it is a sweet looking ride. The rk standard would be my choice between the two you listed. the hard bags seal the deal, IMO. If you are getting an '08, the cruise is very simple and much less expensive to buy than a set of hard bags, BTW.
Maverick, also Montana. Have a 05 Police Road King, swapped out seat @ tires has detach windsreen save many bucks over a Classic or Standard. Great bike for this area. Call Big Sky Harley they have two cop bikes '07 103 inch under $16K don't know if they're batwings or windscreens.
Personally, if you think your wife is going to ride a lot with you , then I would probably go with an Electra Glide Std, Classic or an UC. The radio is nice for both to listen to, and the extra storage is well worth the $$$$.
I have checked and verified that if you live in Montana you have to have a bike with a radio or CD to listen to ***** Nelson. I am pretty sure it is the law..
Beside your wife is gonna love the glides anyway. The Classic is the same price as the Street and you get the storage of the tour pac and I think cruise control at the same price.
But if you really want a top of line Harley get an Ultra Classic. I love mine and my wife rides a lot when we go on trips. Good Luck.
Where bouts in Montana. You are one luckk dog you know.
As many others... I went to buy a Road King Classic. Over the period of time that I was looking I fell in love with the Street Glide and now have a detachable tourpack with the comfy armrests for when my future wife rides on the back. Love it but you can't go wrong with the Road King either. I would rent like others have recomended to see what fits your needs best. Little things like the tunes might bite you. I though who needs a radio on a Harley, I want to hear the engine. Now I can't imagine not having the tunes on long trips. Now I love the batwing also with several different height windscreens for different riding etc. I could go on even longer than I have but there is a lot to think about. Just another .02. My # is on my website if you want any more input. I just went through what your going through 11 months ago.
So Cal pappy gives some sage advice. I just traded my 02 RK Classic in on an Ultrac Classic after a 350 mile 99 dollar rental to make sure it was the right move.
Loved the RK, but the new ride is sweet and have no regrets.
Follow that sage advice and rent...during the week is even cheaper.
Good Luck
nice 08 u have, is that a white gold /black vivid..??
