After not owning a two wheeler for the last 24yrs, I finally took the plunge yesterday and ordered a 2008 Road King. I added cruise control, ABS brakes, factory security system, and the extended 5yr warranty. I'm still kind of in shock but happier than a pig in fresh crap!I'm planning onadding a back rest, rack and nylon travel bag once I pick her up. Then start adding small custom items down the road.
Only problem is I'm currently stationed inKuwait with the military as a reservist andwill not be able to pick it up from my local HD dealer until mid April08 when I return. Oh well, have plenty of timeto think about accessories....... Thanks for everyones help reading here to make this decision. And yes, I was presented a decentprice through the military/sales purchase program.
I served 20 years on nuc submarines and destroyers and I've seen things go to chit all around me and wondered if I was going to see home again. I too stayed off all bikes for 20 years and recently bought 2 new Harleys and I'm lovin it!
You go for it and don't look back. I know what your going thru and what that new bike means to you. I know it's a dream and you cling to it when your world is exploding around you and it seems today is your last day....Buddy, I know.
I want you to know this, ok?....I want you to know we here are going to build you a bike and have it waiting for you. And then when you do get home you will find lots of guys just like you who been there and done that and understand.

When you pick it up, its good to be king!
I chose Vivid Black for the color. Really coldn't make up my mind on the color to be honest. This next 6 months I'm going to be on pin and needles waiting for this baby. And also thank you for your support. I'm just a rear in the gear (Army LSA, Ali Al Salem) guy who is supporting the troops up North and Afganistan traveling back home after there ended tours or RR. They are your real hero's........ But I do pass on your support to them every chance I get. Trust me, they appreciate it.
You will love the vivid black. I have that color and can't stop looking at her. I think most of us here would agree that no matter what you do in the service, you are all heros. Your still in a foreign country away from your home for a long period of timedoing a job. Supporting the troops is just as important in my opinion. Thank You !!! Before you know it, your tour will be over and you can enjoy the riding season on your new baby. Congrats !!!!
