I had the same problem, $600 for setup. Didn't want to pay it.

Checked around and spoke with few guys who I trust, and they said that the dealer, for liability reasons, have to make sure every nut/bolt is right, so they spend about 6 hours unpacking and going over the bike. Still don't like to be charged for these thigs cuz I think that is just part of their doing business. I don't know about $800... seems a bit high.

Shop around. Go out of state if you have to-it makes for a great break-in ride. That is what I did on my last new bike purchase. You could possibly save much more than just the freight/setup fees. My friend has bought 6 of the last 8 bikes out of state, all SE models. He has saved enough money over what the locals wanted to pay for an Ultra.

At the Montana dealership. I was told to add $770 to the MSRP on any of the touring models.

..............Go out of state if you have to................
We can't do that in California. You can't bring a 49 state bike into Ca until it has 7500 miles on it.

Or, if you can't get the deal you want, consider buying used and avoid these problems

Damn, is the KY included ? I'd run away and fast. There's no way in blue hell I'd pay that. Maybe $400. The freight is about right.

Problem I have is the only two HD dealers with 300 miles are owned by the same company. I am going to check with some out of state/area dealers, just to see if anyone will deal given the time of year and current sales. I've got time, winter is here, although I ride in 35* weather, most don't.

I called several dealers in NC, some wanted $345 freight, $295 doc fees and various prices for setup. I found a dealer in Hickory, NC that charged me MSRP and $295 doc fees, no freight or set up on my 08 RG. It pays to call around.
