Cam Bearings...FAILED!!!!
The cambearing on my friends 1997Road King EVOfailed after 30K !
Metal debris damaged cylinderwalls and pistons.
Engine was taken apart and cleaned, cylinders were honed
and oversized (new) pistons installed.
During inspection they found crankshaft was damaged
as well as the cams and oilpump.
Andrew cams were installed with Torrington ballbearings and S&S oilpump.
The hole deal set him back $ 4000, just because the MOCO
didn't fix the bearingproblems.
Warranty ran out, so bad luck for him.

Eighty bucks for an oil change seems a little steep, even if it was all the work that was done. Aside from that, though, at 29.7k (assuming miles) it's time for an oil change anyway, right? So how much do you really think the failed bearing(s?) wrecked you oil/filter? Did they use up the last 2% of its life, maybe?
They put SYN3 in the crank case at about $9 bucks a quart AND charged me labor! I also change my own oil and filter every 5k. Oil usage was not my concern, it was metal debris contaminants that could possibly fail other engine components.

Which cam bearings? Front, rear, all?
The front cam bearing tooka dump...

I dont get it. They are doing A warranty repair . Thats A crock of crap that
you have to pay for the oil and filter ( When it wasnt due )
And then they tag labor on that . What extra work was done , Spin on and off
an oil filter ?

We have three HD stores here in Jacksonville and owned by the same family (Adamec).
I talked to two of the service managers from two of the stores and they both said that the warranty would not cover the oil and filter?
So now I'm calling the manager for all three stores and see how he feels about this?

Mine sounded like metal popcorn, it didn't have a rythmic cadence and was very eratic and got louder the hotter the engine got.
'07 models went to a different design, there are no needle or roller bearings for the cams, they ride on a thin film of oil.
What kind of signs can you look for or hear to know the bearings are going bad ?
Did they use the same bearings in the 07 models too ?

(actually all bearings are supposed to ride in a thin film of oil
The outer bearings on the 96" TC are plain but the inner ones still have rolling elements.
