Default Stage 1 upload

Does anyone know what it takes to do a HD Stage 1 performance ECM upload? What is involved and how long does it take? My dealer want $195 to do it and I think that is rather high. I thought it was around $150.
Thanks,
Steve

BTW, I have an apointment to have the IDS installed tomorrow. Yippeeeeee! $300 installed (with the $100 elbow grease discount.) I'll post my results after the 60 mile ride home.

I think it takes 5-10 minutes. All ther are doing overwriting the map in the ECU with a new map.

10 Minutes and $150 will get it done. Your dealer want's to retire early.

notice on your RG that you have a PC. If this is the case, and this is the bike you're talking about doing a download on, why pay the dealer? it is just a map change on your PC. Just get a new map and load.

If it is on a different bike, i would't pay the dealer for a HD download. I'd use the $ to buy a SERT, then you can do all the downloading and tweaking of the ECU map you want without paying the dealer.

I agree with Gman. I did have the HD Stage 1 download before I added the PCIII. It was not worth the $150.00 I paid. With the PCIII you can do your own map changes without the money going to the Dealer.

Ride Safe,

Mike

Gman, I appreciate the advice. Maybe I'm throwing my money down a hole. You tell me. My plans is to have the stage 1 download done and remove the PCIII for now. I want to see how the bike runs without it. I can always put the PC back on. Also, if I have issues with the PC (already have), I can ride the bike without it. If I try that now (without the stage 1 upload) the bike would be running way too lean. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Steve

sifularson, You are right in your thinking. I had the download done thinking I could save money. It was Ok for a while but it just did not solve the lean condition I had. That is when I got the PCIII. As you say, I too like the fact that if there is a problem with the PCIII I can just unhook it and rely on the HD download until I can repair or replace the PCIII. Sort of an insurance policy.

Ride Safe,

Mike

Stage 1 download works great for me. Ten minutes and $175 total. I had two PCIII's go bad, so got the download to ride while I sent them back for repair plus be able to ride home after the 2nd PCIII failed. I've had my third PCIII back now for three weeks and still haven't installed it. Bike's running too good.
