Default clutch cable adjustment

[&:] I've been looking through the do-it-your self forum and haven't found what I'm looking for. Does anyone out there know if you can make minor clutch adjustments at the cable adjuster behind the front wheel? Or do all adjustments large or small have to be done at the clutch housing? Got an 06 RG with a little too much play in the lever and I'm too lazy to remove darby cover.

You can adjust the cable you mentioned, you need a 7/16" and a 3/8" wrench. The easy-clutch should have no play when cold. Cover your fender!

Hope this helps.

I did adjust the cable above the fender between my 1000 mile and my 5000 mile service. Seems like lots of cable stretch on a new bike. I did not have any problems.

Do your adjustment behind your front fender, pull the rubber bellows down and tweak it there.

Pulling a derby cover takes about 5 mins. About as long as pulling down the front boot and loosening the lock nut. You're talking about maybe 30 mins to do the job right, with possibly the added cost of a new gasket. Why take shortcuts?

The adjustment "behind the front wheel" and the one behind the derby cover are done for different reasons. After the one behind the derby cover is correct, then you can adjust the cable behind the front wheel.
P.S. Lube the rubber boot with a little WD40 so it slides off/on without tearing.

Leave a little, match cover or less, play in cable.

I've got a new cable and it already seems to have stretched pretty far. I'm almost out of room at the adjustment behind the fender.
Is there anyway to take up some of the slack by adjusting something behind the derby cover?

If you are out of adjustment at the cable behind the fender then your only alternative is to go into the derby cover and make the adjustment there which will give you back some adjustments behind the fender.
