Default Champion Reverse Gear for H D FLHTCI

After making the jump from my Sporty to an E G Classic I found that horsing the E G around was very difficult, especially backing up. I jokingly wished I had a reverse gear. Last night I stumbled across a reverse gear after market kit from an outfit named Champion. After reading the info on it I was totally surprised that what I wished for was actually available and that other larger bikes from (name omitted) have the reverse gear as standard equipment. What's up H D? Any way has anyone had any experience with this product? Anyone use it? I am not very big but I do love my ride and I find myself planning where and how I park it, just to avoid backing it up. Jim

Have seen item you mention on several trikes with Harley motors and transmissions. Also have seen same advertized. Have not heard anything negative about item. Think it is about time for it for small people, short legs or anyone who does want some help backing up bike. Some are electronic and some you put in reverse while in nuetral with clutch engaged, then pull lever up on transmision and let out clutch. Again have not heard anything negative about it.

I think backing up the bike is part of having the Harley. I seen a guy at the dealer with it on his Ultra but he still had his feet on the ground move backwards. I think it a waste of money

i agree, the other bikes with reverse need it cause some genious thought to encase your feet with fairings so you can't move em.if you really need it get it but the other guys from the land of the rising sun have no choice, you do.ain't it grand

I have an Ultra and an '02 Wing.

The fairing on the Wing has nothing to do with the ability to back up the bike manually. Honda just decided, and correctly so I believe, that it makes more sense to have reverse on an 800 pound motorcycle. I can park my Wing anywhere, without thinking about it. With the Ultra, I have to carefully consider the process when I enter a parking lot. A huge problem? No. But, problem enough.

Also, my driveway up into my garage is pitched down towards the road. So to get the Ultra in, I have to get off, and push it backwards with the Bars and the seat back. To be honest, I look rather silly when I do it, and my back barks at me later.

I love my Ultra, and reverse is the ONLY thing (well maybe the HP sometimes) that I miss when I ride the HD over the Wing.

The idea that liking reverse on such a large bike makes you less a man, or not a "Harley Rider" is odd to my thinking. What next, we pull 'em out and measure 'em?

Absolutely! Just make sure she wears gloves so she doesn't get fingerprints on your fairing.
