For those going from dino oil to synthetic, is there any concern with the dino oil that is left in the oil pump and the new syn that is being added?
Do they mix ok or should I get one of those total change kit things that runs the oil out of the pump....eeeeek, still scares me.[]
Good question. I'm switching to syn next week.
Synthetics and dino oils are 100% compatible, so you can mix them, change back & forth between dino & syn, etc. all you want and it's completely safe. This is a common question and can be verified at any oil manufacturer's website under their FAQ's.
And don't waste you money on a oil scavenger system- it's a big-money solution for a problem that doesn't exist...
5K (use high quality oil filter)and 10K on the trans/primaryfor me unless the ol'lady takes the notion to boot me out to the garage on a rainyday. Then I change stuff and clean the scoot, ignoring her car.Usually means I get Sunday to myself too - women[>:].
I change all three holes out between 3,000-4,000 miles ,oils cheap and i probally could go longer in between changes, but i choose to do them all together. im using mobil 1 v-twin 20w50 engine ,mobil 1 75w90 trans, and either HD primary oil or syn 3 in the primary(have some left over after switching to mobil 1) for me it gives me a reason to lay down and look under the bike for any problems ,look things over.
I use Red Line products in our bikes. I change motor oil every 5,000 / oil filter every 2,500. Primary and transmission I change at 10,000 or before first ride in the spring.
