Those that use synthethic and change their own oil...How often do you change it AND do you do the Primary and Tranny every time you change the oil? Longer intervals on the primary and tranny? Just curious.
For those going from dino oil to synthetic, is there any concern with the dino oil that is left in the oil pump and the new syn that is being added?
Do they mix ok or should I get one of those total change kit things that runs the oil out of the pump....eeeeek, still scares me.[]
Dino multi viscosity oils and synthetic oil mix fine. Don't worry about it. Make the switch. The only concern you might have is that on some high mileage engines, when you make the switch to synthetic, youMIGHT see an increase in oil leaks. I don't know for sure how well documented that is. That might be more of an "old wives' tale."
I use Mobil 1 V-Twin 20-50 in the engine, Mobil 1 45-75? gear lube and Harley Formula + in primary. Change engine every 5K and tranny and primary every 10K. Switched to synthetic at the 1K service and have a total of 10,500 in the 5 1/2 months I've owned it. It works for me.
