Happens quite often with my '07 FLHR. Of course, I'm direct ocean-frontin FL and PVC rusts here too (J/K... well, sort of J/K). I need to flood the puppy to get salt off and gas guage has drops inside every time, speedo fogs once in a while. They both always dry out though (so far anyway).
Once in a while thefuel gauge on my '05 Ultra Classicfogs. I can't determine why. My bike is stored in a cool dry garage. It's seen rain only threetimes in 11k miles.I never use a pressure washer, and Idon'tspray the gauge with a water hose when I wash my bike.Any idea why the gauge fogs?
It seems like the majority fog over. Even though you avoid spray/rain, sudden changes in temperatures can make it fog slightly. You will have the same humidity in the gauge as in the surrounding air. If you ride through a colder area, such as a valley, etc., the gauge will fog over for a short time. Once the humidity rebalances for the temperatures or you get into the sun and warmer temps, the fog will dissipate as the water evaporates into the air in the gauge again.
It would seem to me thatI could seal the fuel gauge with silicone or something to not let any air in or out. Wouldnt that stop the "fogging"
Most people don't use the HD fuel gauge anyway - it's notoriously inaccurate. As long as the gauge were filled with dry air, sealing would work. However, a small leak would bring back the same problem and it probably wouldn't dry out due to the faulty seal (Murphy's Law) working only in the venting direction. Speedometers and tachs are also vented - less trouble prone, though. Replacing the gauge with the L.E.D. version is one fix that HD recommends .
Yep , just another MOCO POS.
They claim "It's Normal!!"
Normally the heat from the light bulb will dry it out after a few minutes riding time.
mine does it too - but now I think that light also burnt out - the only light I have is that annoying bright yellow low fuel idiot light, at night I have no clue how much gas I have left
