Default Combo Kits

Winter is around the corner. While I can't ride I would like to upgrade the engine. I am having a difficult choice on combo kits. First off I ride a 03 Road King fuel injected. I ride mostly 1 up. Like riding in the Ohio Valley and country, 35-80mph. Sometimes my wife tags along combined weight 485lbs. When she's along I have to cruise, she's not into fast. most street riding is done between 2,000 and 3,500 RPM with semi aggressive shifting done in the 4 to 5,000 RPM range. Found this on the HQ site. Seems to describe my riding perfectly. I am leaning on going HQ and use there protuner since I have the sert. But I see a lot of other builders Like GMR and Hillside and wonder how they compare to the HQ stuff. What about the tw 6 cam or the R&R 525 is the duration to high for a bagger. Would like to have a my useable power in my riding range isn't duration what dictates this? I am thinking of going 10:1, figure that's safe for fuel/load. Another question would be if I were going with one of these other build is tuning. Would the thundermax with auto tune work well? And exhaust Fatcat of course. Thanks Bart (shooter64). I am asking in the touring section because we ride the same bikes and you would understand what I am looking for.. Torque.! Thanks In advance. Bob

I noticed alot of HQ people on this site. Anyone running the 0039? When does it start to pull? On another site they push the R&R 525 and the Tw 6. Some people are running them. But are they in baggers? and how do they perform? Pulls hard from the get go or soggy bottom then they go. I don't want to make a mistake and not have it perform as expected. comments anyone. thx Bob

I think the title of your post is throwing people off. Ya might put in there"engine upgrade, HQ?" Or something like that. Also, PhilM has a lot of knowledge on building power, and using HQ to do it. If ya can, I would PM him. He is a good guy, and has no trouble answering questions on engine modifications.

No sweat. If I knew anything about engine modification, I would have helped you out. I am buying a set of jugs from Phil, to take me to 95", so I will be learning, LOL.

After speaking with Phil, he seemed to favor the HQ-0034. He said both were good, but that he had more experience with it, and that was good enough for me. I will be going gear drive, but have to figure a way to scrape the money together to do it. LOL. I will be doing the cylinders and pistons myself, which is a first for me. I am a little worried, but I do most of the work on my cars, so he seemed to think I will be fine. I wish I was as confident in my abilities, as he seemed to be. LOL If I can get the jugs and pistons done, myself, I see no reason why I couldn't do the cams, as well. We shall see. Good luck with your build, and I would like to know what you decide on, and if you get done before I do, what your impressions of them are. Keep in touch.

Cruising 2000-3500 is OK (kind of low) but you have to remember one thing you need pulling power when riding two up for going around slower moving Vehicles

Hey Bob...

I saw your thread when you started it, but wanted to let some others chime in so as not to seem like I always wanted to just jump.

However, since you asked about the the 0039.... I have been running them for a year and they ROCK! Toqure is available early and long. Attached is my dyno sheet. As dyno sheets go... it does show that the motor is strong early - at least in my opinion.

This motor has 0039's HQ heads and 98" millenium jugs and is running @ 10:1, with a D&D FatCat.

I recommended the 0034's for Travis, as his build does not have re-worked heads or increased compression (yet).
