Default ABS Brakes

Hi all, I have a friend who ordered a 08 Road King Classic and declined to upgrade to the ABS brakes, he is now concerned that he did not make the right choice. The bike is being delivered within the next 2 weeks to a dealer in the Baltimore area, is it possible to upgrade to the ABS system after the fact ? Thanks for your help,

Patiently awaiting our departure from the sandbox

Have the dealer revise the order to include ABS.

if you don't do it before assembly, you will not be able to upgrade it..... it uses different forks, different wheels, different bearings, another computer, different wiring harnes, the abs control unit, abs sensors atr each wheel....

tell him it is only 800.00 , the best upgrade that can happen to this bike, why try to save 800.00 and have a bike lacking the best new upgrade to a harley in the last decade?

That's a different color horse then what I've heard?! I heard there was a kit being considered by the Harley RD team being considered for the 08's and onward which consist of wheel hub modification, bearings, fork modification kit, ABS sensors, computer module, and harness! Also that the 08's, all of the touring models had the main harness which includes the leads for the computer, ABS module and guage indicator already installed regardless of purchase with or without ABS?!... Have no idea what something like that would cost but wouldn't you think that Harley would surely take advantage of an aftermarket item like that?? Sounds possible to me! If Harley doesn't make a kit for ABS someone else will!

Still better to get it on a new bike rather then modify it later... when and if it does become possible... and I believe it will............. Harley would be fooling not to come up with a kit .... wouldn't they??

I would cancel the order and re-order with ABS - if he has a deposit down they could apply that to the new bike; the sales guy should have explained the positives of ABS when he placed his order.

Knock on wood, I'm fine, you're fine, and hopefully everyone else is fine. And by the way does anyone who posted have ABS brakes? I don't......Wouldn't sweat it, there are a lot more pre- ABS Harley's on the road than ABS Harley's........Relax and tell him to enjoy the ride... If it was such a big deal, we would all be trading in for 08's with that option........

So far so good with my ABS. I have yet had to use it (knock on wood). It is nice to know it is there.
