Hey everyone. I have been trying to ride as much as I can. Here in WI the riding season is almost over. It seems as of late I have had a squeal in my front brakes. The weird thing is that is only squeals when the bike is rolling without the brakes on. If I apply the brakes it goes away. I had the rotor flop about 1,000 miles ago and the squeal stopped all together. It came back now and has not gone after about a week. Any suggestions? I tried cleaning all brake parts but it was not help. I also have another question. I have the 6 speed tranny and in 5th and 6th it makes a different noise than all the other gears. There is always that faint whine but 5th and 6th its a different whine and a bit louder. It also seems to ride rough in those gears. I usually shift around 3,000- 3,500 rpm and never let the rpms drop below about 2,200rpm in any gear when cruising. Some help would be awesome. Thanks in advance. Oh and if it matters the bike has about 6,000 total miles.
You may want to put thicker tranny oil in. That will help with the whine and noise. No brake issues here so don't know what to tell you on that. 75w-90 some use. I use RP 75w-140. Others will give more adivice. The 5th gear noise is normal. IDS was used on the 08 to help with the rattle but they say it won't stop the noise. I don't know. I don't plan on getting it. No issues here.
Ive never heard of ANYONE having noise in 6th gear? 5th gear is stright cut for strength but 6th gear is helical cut and should be quiet. Not sure what might be causing that.
I switched to Red Line Shockproof Heavy in transmission. No noise at all. Made shifting almost silent and smooth. Gears should have gear oil not motor oil. Just my opinion.
I know there is going to be a little noise. The tranmission shifts great 1st through 4th and then 5th hits and there is aa whine. The whine isn't so bad it 6th but it seems to ride rough in those gears?
I have a pulsating whine in 5th after about 65mph. My Indie said it may be the rubber muffler mount and we replaced the right side. Still got the whine. Has anyone got the same problem? I have a 06 SG.
alright to all you smarta$$es! I am 21 and in school so major mods are out of the question for a little bit. The first bike was a honda and there is no question that harley is the way to go. I love the damn bike. I want to make sure there isn't a problem becasue my 2 year warr. will be ending this spring and I don't want to have to bust ***** trying to get it to the dealer with snow on the ground. If there is a problem with the tranny I just want to get it taken care of. This is different. I went from 5 gears to 6 and 88 ci to 96ci. I know there are 1,000's of differences. I am just trying to see if this is normal or something of concern. Thanks
