Big_E, I completed the build about two months ago. I have no complaints about the Rolling Thunder frame. I needed to make a few tweeks, but nothing heavy. There are a few issues... The 200mm BARELY fits into the Klock Werks fender. Don't get me wrong, it goes in. I'll be going to a 190mm tire when I need another. I chose 13.5 in shocks for a little extra clearance not thinking about how much taller the 200/55/18 was than a stock tire. The back end sits too high. I need shorter shocks. I'll wait to change them with the rear tire as the the 190mm will be shorter than the 200...(one thing effects another). I would recommend the motor combo to anyone! Sure, Jims makes a great motor and so do a lot of other companies. But, the S&\\;S package with single bore, closed loop injection and VFI module is a plug and play setup. NO tuning required! Start it up and go from day one! A very wise choice was going with a HD 2004 FLHTC wiring harness. Made the whole process a lot easier.
Would I go this route again? Hard to say! Insurance on a custom build is outrageous! $1000 deductible, $1600 a year to cover $36K. Titling is no simple task either. In Virginia it took two months AFTER completion and $800. Hindsite, I'd consider buying a wrecked HD touring frame, add the wide tire kit and everything else... Save on insurance and be a lot easier to get a title.
I've got about 3k on the bike now. Went to Laconia last month. Trust me, it runs...
dont want to start a fight but socal pappy is incorrect. you can chop extend rake or modify a harley frame any way you want and its still a harley title. as long as the vin stamped on the frame isnt modified its harley
