Myth 10: Lane Splitting. We can't do it legally in Texas but I have been doing it for years anyway. If done correctly it is definately safer than sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. Like anything else it must be donecarefully and not ***** to the wall. People do tend to throw out stuff, open their doors and so on. You have to approach cautiously enough to be able to handle these situations.
Only 2% of organ donors are motorcycle crash victims. A doctor that lives down the street told me that they like to "harvest the organs while the heart is still beating".
I tore up my donor card after I heard that.

The worst thing that helmet laws have done is to reduce the number of organ donors.
I particularly like #2. "Loud Pipes Save Lives". I have said for a long time that loud pipes just **** people off and have nothing to do with safety. Seems that loud pipes are actually involved in more crashes.
Bill
Man, I dont wear a helmet unless I have to and I have loud pipes..........You guys are why we will be wearing hockey pads in order to ride.
Interesting reading...no...ill conceived...yes...quoting statistics that don't exist or are incomplete and therefore misleading more people...yes
Do you know any bikers who "sit around and talk about crashes and safety"? First clue.
Do you know bs when you hear it? second clue
1. "Don't care" means assume they don't care, not don't care right back.
2. If "the research shows that bikes with modified exhaust systems crash more frequently than those with stock pipes", then you can also assume mostly Harleys have modified exhaust, so therefore Harleys crash more frequently. Yea right. Someday research which include all the parameters will show inexperience and showing off causes more crashes. Pipes have nothing to do with crashes.
3. Studies show that helmeted motorcyclists actually suffer fewer neck injuries when they crash compared to riders who crash without helmets. Another incomplete study.
4.Whatever the reasons, wearing a helmet clearly does not increase a motorcyclist's risk of having an accident and wearing one correlates to reduced likelihood of an accident. There's nothing clear about it; just another assumption. A helmet does nothing for seeing better, but if you ever spent any time without one you know you have better side vision without most of them. At slow speeds you don't need anything; at high speeds you need goggles and yea something over your ears. Helmets are for crashing.
5. Bikers say a helmet won't help in SOME crashes. Don't just make stuff up.
6. So what if some would rather die than be broken bodied with a brain?
7. A biker should be PREPARED to handle most any situation. Don't go making stuff up.
8. A bike goes down easily. Do what you have to.
9. Who's not going to drink one beer and not ride? Who talks about that?
10. Another fake survey? As with most of these, it's the cagers who think it's scary.
11. Moving slower allows more time to avoid each other. Say it slowly.
12. Not urban legend, it's newer technology.
Not bad, just incomplete.
Myth 10: It's Better to Stay in Your Lane than Split LanesIn most parts of the world, motorcycles split lanes all the time, everywhere traffic is heavy. Here in the U.S., people often act as if lane-splitting is insane. But when someone actually studied it in the only place in the U.S. where it's legal (California), they discovered it's actually slightly safer than staying in the lane in heavy, slow-moving traffic. Still many motorcyclists berate others who do it, when they should in fact be endorsing it.
I agree. After years of spending many hours daily splitting lanes on the freeways I am here to report that I have not been involved in an accident as a result ever. I have however been in several wrecks on the streets that were not my fault and could not have been avoided. Go figure.
Myth 2: Loud Pipes Save Lives Whatever the reason, the research shows that bikes with modified exhaust systems crash more frequently than those with stock pipes. If you really want to save lives, turn to a loud jacket or a bright helmet colored. Where's the study on this, I belive this is fear mongering
Myth 7: A Skilled Rider Should Be Able to Handle Almost Any SituationThe sharpest, most skilled motorcyclist in the world isn't going to be up to the task when a car turns or pulls out in front of him a short distance ahead and stops directly in his path broadsideA well trained and skilled rider doesn.t put him/her selves into these positions, and when they find themselves in these situations find there way out of them

Let those who ride decide................
I don't wear a helmet either, and that is a choice that only impacts me. Loud pipes impact the sourrounding area and it is partially because of them that new laws against motorcycles are being passed all the time.
Maybe it's you guys that think you have the right to impose your noise on others that will be the downfall of motorcycle riding.
