Fairing Appearance
Hi Folks,
I have a 08 Street Glide and had a question about the front fairing. This past weekend I rode my bike from South Carolina to Daytona Beach,FL.While on I-95 I heard a THUD at the front of my bike.I didn't think much of it until I stopped and looked my bike over.Something hit my fairing and left five scratches about an inch long (each).I tried to use Meguiars ScratchX but the scratches are too deep.It looks like some of them are to the primer. My bike is black and the scratches really sitck out. This is my first touring bike so here's my question.Should I have the fairing repainted or should I leave it alone and not worry about it because it will only get scratched again?Being on the front of the bike I can see where the fairing takes alot of abuse but I would also like for it to look good. What would you do?

I've had 9 Harleys with fairings and only had one get scratched like you are describing. I was on the interstate on a long ride too. I'd get it fixed if it bothers you.
Now might be a good time to consider some custom artwork, an HD fairing bra, or order some vivid black paint at the HD store or have a good auto body guy use PPG paint code 9850 and shoot it. Sorry to hear of your misfortune.
Fill it with a sharpie and then have an invisible bra installed. You won't ever have that problem again.

Get a bottle of cheap azz Black Turtle Wax. For $3, the stuff really works. If you have a black bike, car, whatever. IT is great. It leaves no residue, like regular chalky wax, and fills in almost every blemish you can imagine-
You might want to consider a Harley front fairing bra when you take long trips, it's a life saver. Added one to my bike for trip out to Sturgis and was glad I did. It is easy to put on and off so you can take it off when cruising in town and put on for long trips.Fits snug and doesn't hurt your paint at all. I was very impressed with it.
