Default Can someone please explain

to me why the rear tire wears twice as much as the front? I just don't get it......Is there some scientific explanation, or am I just missing the obvious?

The rear tire has more of a weight load on it as well as the force under acceleration causes more wear.

Simple explanation:

The rear tire is getting the power put to it, torque slippage against road that you can't see.

Then do front drive cars front tires wear faster than the rear? What about rear drive cars rear tires wear faster? Assuming no spin outs, etc. I've just never noticed with the car........No not kidding, and no not completely stupid.

thanks for the answers

Yes, Yes, that's why you rotate the tires on 4 wheelers. I suppose you could do it on bikes that run the same front and rear tires.

With a rear wheel car the steering duties of the front tires help to offset the traction issues in the rear and keep wear somewhat even. A front wheel drive vehicle has steering and drive up front and if they are not rotated the fronts will wear faster then the rear. On two wheels the front tireis along for the ride and doesn't get nearthe scrubbing effect that four wheeled vehiclesget in a turn.
