This is VERY tempting to me. Does anyone have actual experience with this mount? It looks so much cleaner than the Harley rear mount point. I only ride two-up 2000 miles/year and most of that would be with the backrest. Tour-pak is only for overnights.
Harley tour-pak kit for EG Classic mail-order plus install labor is $500. This kit costs $300 and leaves the back of the bike looking nice when it's detached. Overall much less extra crap on the bike.
Do you know the manufacturer? Assume they made it. I have a FBI version that looks just like that though. There were a couple of minor issueson the FBI version.
Here's the product description: "Engineered to mount were your detachable backrest is used, allowing you to use a OEM Tour-Pack."
I've never had detachable hardware before so I don't know what to consider. What would be your concerns with something like this? What was wrong with the FBI one?
Grinner,
I would bet the FBI version is wider to accomodate wider fender but some issues may be the same. My bike is an 07 and the mounting holes on top of the plate didnt line up. Had to drill holes in the Tour Pak. No bid deal. The other thing I didnt like was the way the flat part the Tour Pak attached to the metal frame. The back of the frame only extends to the back of the holes and it concerned me that loaded, too much of the Pak would be beyond the metal plate. I wanted it further back anyway so added a George Anderson relocater and had him make it without a couple of the holes on top. That makes support all the way to the rear of the Pak. Not sure if it was gonna ever be a problem...preventative. The last issue was on the front attaching support. The little "plastic" bushings that are stock were evidently wearing out because of the sharp edge on the nose of the braket eating thru. I never had that problem but they sent me a solid metal replacement stud for the front. There is no "plastic" now. Pretty good customer service by FBI.....send you replacements before you ever know a problem existed. The metal to metal contact does not rattle.
Again, FBI is probably different but give you some idea whereMilwaukee problems may or may notexist.
