Hello, I am new to the forum and have been following the posts for about two months now. I have an 08 Ultra Classic. I am thinking of adding the SE Big Bore Stage II 103 kit. I know that the after market kits will have more punch, but after researching, the SE kit will fit my needs. My question is, how many hours of labor does it take to install this kit. I have called several dealers and they quoted from 12-20+ hours. For any of you Harley Dealer employees or mechanics out there, could you please give me a reasonable estimate as to what the hours are for this type of install. Thanks in advance.
This site is extremely informative as well as entertaining.
I asked service manager about it and he said it would be about 8 hours of labor. Double that if you also want cams. Everybody I talked to said you should also change out the cams.
I spoke witht he service manager and their engine man. The engine man does only engines. They said $800 for labor. He said he could do it in 6-8 hours in everything goes as planned. He also said on the 07's-because it is a late model- has been very easy to do. They gave me a $150 discount on my 10,000 mile service because it was easy. No stuck bolts etc. The cost was $354 total.
I am planning on doing something but not sure exactly what I will do as of yet. If i do the 103 kit I want to change heads thats for sure.
I am hoping to get the stage two kit with cams when I purchase a Road Glide for less than $1600,.
My goal is to get the bike, Stage II, a seat and backrest for list plus $2000 [:-]
You know the after market kit will have more power but you still don't want to do one???? C'mon don't do the HD kit, do yourself a favor and just get some good cams. It will be close to the same result and way way way cheaper. I think cams are $250ish
15 hrs on my job. Do not use HTCC CNC Ported heads on an 08. They do not have the holes for the new front cylinder engine mount, my shop learned it the hard way. If you go with ACR heads don't forget about the wiring harness=more labor.
