Bought a 3 year old, 8,300 mile Superglide on ebay from 325 miles away. I was into it for a $500 deposit when we went to pick it up. Bike was exactly as described, so I paid the balance with acashiers check and drove it home. Traded it 30k trouble free miles later. The seller and I even continued a friendly correspondence for a couple of years.

There are no guarantees in this kind of transaction, but if the seller has sold numerous items with 100% positive feedback, provides lots of pictures, answers questions readily, then you will probably be ok. It's nerve wracking, but under the right circumstances I would do it again.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all your advice. It sounds like the general consensus is to look at the bike first. I guess I'll just be patient and wait for something local. The time and money involved with going and seeing most of the stuff I've seen online would negate the good deal I'd possibly be getting.

You can always see about having a forum member check out a bike for you. We're all over the country and many folks on here would probably be willing to help out.

I bought my bike through, www.dreammachinesoftexas.com . I actually saw them listed on ebay. Well, I went to their site, and if you check it out, you will see they give a bunch of photos of the bike. I bought my bike, site unseen. The deal went very smooth. I had it shipped to me, and they arrange everything. When the bike arrived, there was a small chip in the rear fender. I went back and looked at the pics, sure enough, it was there. I contacted the seller (Jason), and he said, no problem. Take it to someone and have it fixed. Send me a copy of the bill, and I will send you the money. Didn't fight with me, and it was actually his suggestion to get it fixed. All in all, a very good experience for me.

I bought my RKC this July on Ebay. It was listed by an indie dealer for Titan and trikes and 4-wheelers so I felt better about bidding. I told the guy if the bike was not as listed I wasn't paying and he understood. It's not newand has a little "character" but at half the price of a new oneI ride without breaking the bank.

That would be my suggestion.

My current bike I bought off an e-bay listing. Turned out he didn't get a bid mainly because his pics sucked. I e-mailed him and found he lived 20 miles from me so I went and looked. It was a great deal so I paid what he was asking. The bike was far better in person. No regrets. Whenever possible, look!
