chinese made harleys
I like my harleys but that won't stop me from buying a Busa when my street Glide is paid off
The original date that will live in infamy!!
December 7, 1941 When Japan deliberately made a sneak attack on us.
That's one day we should remember even more then 9 /11.
Japan could not beat us then with military and technology.
even though they officially surrendered on paper, they have NOT stopped
trying to defeat us. Now it is financially and cheap goods.
It wasn't just HD in the 70's that requested higher tariffs.
all the auto makers wanted them.
so to get around those tariffs Japan started building factories here in the U.S.
But where do all the profits end up?? You got it back at headquarters in Japan!!
It is almost impossible today to find anything made strictly in the U.S.
Even American electronics are made overseas and thats one thing we all use a lot of.
My tools and my furniture are USA as much as possible.
My truck is an 87 chevy, mostly USA.
when I need to call a tech line if they don't speak english naturally I push for someone who does.
and I write complaints about push 1 for English.
Nothing against them, except I had relatives in Pearl Harbor that died that day, so no I don't trust them and I sure as hell won't forgive them!!
Japan is in to long-term viability, wealth and financial power. They do not seek to dominate the world. If it's global domination you fear, look to China. That's where the US should be spending more time and energy. HSBC Bank which under-writes FAR TOO MANY LOANS here in the US is something like 70% owned by the CHINESE GOVERNMENT. Do you *REALLY* want all that money going to the Chinese Government? Trust me, between Iran, China, Pakistan a few other trouble makers around the globe, I would *WELCOME* more Japanese involvement in the US if we have to look outside our borders for anything.
(note, this is not an anti-Chinese point of view, this is an anti-Chinese-Government point of view)
As for your WWII reference, come on... get over it. We also killed a **** ton of Englishmen once, too. And Germans. I'm of German descent. Should I just go ahead and ship out now? Get out of your country? 'Cause unless you're "Native American" Cherokee, Sioux, Apache, etc., chances are you came from somewhere that people had a beef with at some point.
Ya know?
Well we are very close to 12/7/2007!!

The tariff was only on bikes over 1000 cc. if I remember correctly. Thats why Honda moved assembly of the Goldwings to the US.
The bottom line for me as a person who has ridden HDs for the past 34 years as well as some other bikes is that if you are a Harley person (which I became the day I rode the first XLCH away from picking it up at the HD dealer) or you're not. If you are thenthe bike stirs your soul and the others don't quite cut it. It's not about resale, all american, technology, plastic vs. metal, all that is something to debate and maybe otherwise justify a purchase (so is $3.50 a gallon gas) but if you're a HD person all that don't matter much. It's how you feel when you're putting down a nice country road on a sunny day listening to the primal beat of that Milwaukee V-twin that still has elements of that great invention of William S. Harley and three Davidsons, that has changed our lives forever.

Chornbe....you're right my mistake. Actually the Japanese bike makers tried to help HD out, but HD turned down the offer assuming they would get tariff protection. Check the following like if you want all the details.....I stand my my statement the AMF was the cause of HD nearly going bankrupt, comments to that effect also noted in the link. http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa032.html The family buying the company back in the early 80s, along with tariff protection is what saved the MoCo.
