Default hot pipes

I ride an 07 road king classic with rinehart true duals. I have a moustache engine guard. I can only leave my legs resting on the engine guard for about 5 minutes at the most before it starts to smell like a barbeque - I mean my right leg gets REAL hot. Are the hot pipes a deal with the 96 or does it have something to do with the rineharts?

Do you have any type of fuel management system? (PCII, V&H FuelPak, SERT, etc)

A PC is on my Christmas list. Nothing but stock now. I know they reprogrammed the fi control when the rineharts were installed.

You need to get that thing richened up. Put a free flowing air cleaner on it while you are at it, you wont regret it.

The tempwill be greatly improved after you put inSERT or something similar.
You didn't say how many miles you had on it,I found that once it's good and broken in it will be cooler also.

Fuel Management System "WILL" improve your heat issue - FINISH the stage 1 with a Air Kit (Ness Big Sucker's are GREAT!!!) - Would also HIGHLY RECOMMEND changing over to a "GOOD SYN OIL" like AMSOIL or MOBIL 1...

There is a ton of info on this site about this topic. Get a fuel management system you will see a huge improvement.

When they "reprogrammed" your system after installing the pipes, the main thing that happens it that the tune for rideability is enhanced, but on the 07's, adjustment of the A/F ratio is limited by the ECM and the type of 02 sensors, meaning that HD set the A/F at 14.7, and the adjustablility is limited to at the best, 14.1 AFR, which is too lean under certain conditions. Combine that with a very advance timing table that the stock bike come with and you have high heat. 14.1 is fine for fuel economy in the cruising range, but is a bit lean for idle, and for anything above 30 - 40 % throttle position. That is why there are complaints of pinging in the newre bikes when rolling on the throttle from a cruising speed.

Get a tuner installed, the PC III is very common and if you are not doing any future modifications, will work fine as would a host of others. If you are planning going to more engine modifications, check out the DTT, T-Max or SERT with the HQ Pro Tuner.

I am planning on getting a stage 2 103 done this spring. I was planning on including a PC III. Would that be the way to go in terms of the heat issue or would the 103 kit put me back on the grill?
