Nearly all businesses are great to deal with until there's a problem. That's when you really learn just how "great" they are and whether they are honorable or not.

This company and its owner failed the test and now they'll pay the price for it as they very well should. They're going to learn the lesson that in this Internet age, bad work and/or poor customer service don't stay secrets for very long.

were you usin the R&R cast heads or stock heads they reworked.....i run the nickasil, got it from steve...had no probs so far whatsoever...i have read the complaints...on my initial look at the cylinder/pistons i called and questioned steve bc the pistons were not labeled as to which jug they went with....in my world, you send the machinist the block along with the slugs, they come back dedicated to a hole....i was told it was all within tolerance which told me "off the shelf"...the cast heads i took apart and re-lapped the valves, then shimmed and set up the springs myself...i also did my own rings and mic'd the cylinders, matched up the two as best as i could....so far my build has been perfect....i was worried and have been since the threads about nickasil appeared, however, still no probs at all and i rarely warm the bike before taking off.....your a good member with strong engine skills, i'm sorry you got the bum deal, i'da probly cuss'd and threaten'd em too....if mine scores out and develops a knock, i may go with axtell or hq.....i will say tho that steve at gmr has always been straight so's he's still on my will call list....sorry again bro, keep us posted

Nikasil; there was quite a storm over cylinders using nikasil in the '90's. My reference was with BMW cars, not motocycles. The understanding was sulfa in the gasoline reacted with the cylinder walls and the motors had a 100% failure rate. The problems were amplified in the N.E. becaused they used more sulfa. BMW allowedALL the affected models to have the blocks replaced. Please don't tell me nikasil is in the stock late model HD motors. Nikasil, what a nightmare.

Most if not all engines in the snowmobile world use nickasil with no problems at all with the exception of cold seizures if the sled isn't warmed properly if using forged pistons. I would think they would work fine in a bike.

They will not never see any of my money. As for you cursing them out. Good for you. You can only poke a dog with a stick for so long before it bites ya. I think you were poked enough

i think your fine with GMR even if you have a problem, those guys seem to have a good rep....(but i hear they no longer deal with nickasil) ya know when i had the broken valve spring, i didnt blame anyone... but when i get heads back with bent valve, hacked valve guides and told no we didnt set spring rates because i just asked them to install them... that isnt building a motor, thats just putting the pieces together and hoping for the best...lol i got to laugh, i told him we were taking the heads apart after we got them back to check everything out, he said if i tamper with there heads id void my warranty, good and glad i did check the crap he put together... what a joke.

how many miles on your build? i had about 20,000 on it...

I am thinking of a 95" build, PhilM suggested to bore out my jugs so they want be off the shelf and would match better, there's no dout that he is right, some of those monster builds you see from time to time will have problems down the rd if not put together right thr first time.

Oh how things change so quickly, not that long ago these kits were the greatest thing since sliced bread. . .now they are made to sound like the devil. I sure hate to read this but at this point I think the only thing for me to do is to ride the crap out of it and see what happens.

Thanks for the heads up. Seriously, I was considering their products, but will look further. They may have a great product (or maybe not) but without customer service, they are useless. I would gladly pay a little more for anything to know that I will have service after the sale, and a company that stands behind their product. Not to hijack your thread, but I recently bought a product, from a trusted source that I have done business with for years. The product failed, not only in my case, but for the owner of the company's personal case as well. He used the product himself, and it failed. He aggreed to refund 1/2 the cost if I would provide him with pictures. Also, he got these products free of charge, so my payment was 100% profit, and he will only refund 1/2 the cost? I told him in short order that if my word was not enough, on an issue that he knew was a problem, to keep his money, and I would remove his link from my website, and he should frame my check.....as it would be the last one he would ever get from me....
