When I did my primary, I f'ed up the o ring. Had to rush around to get a new o ring, and fluid for a trip I was taking. the little leak didn't mean much, but bugged me. And, I am on meds, LOL. So, for the second time, I applied some teflon tape to the threads, and I had no leak, and still don't.

Same here w/teflon.
New orings each time and alittle teflon. Becareful to not push the teflon up into the pan, always clean threads upon removal. Never a leak on any drain plugs.
just picked up an '08 ultra classic and want to put the HD oil temp gauge in the fairing, well read alot of posts that say the best and cheapest) way to mount the sensor is to remove the plug next to the oil drain plug (the one that requires an allen wrench to remove), put in a bushing and screw in the oil temp sender, well went to local dealership and they said under no circumstances should i remove that plug for some reason or another.. my question is does anyone know what this plug is for and will it really do any damage if removed. I figured worse case if i remove it and strip it out i have to buy a new oil pan. Opinions please.
