I put Metzlers on my Heritage and I`m very happy with the ride, handling and wear. Some swear by Avon.To each their own.The metz. usually require a few more lbs. of air than the stock dunlops.Check their site for fitment and air specs.I got mine from my local indy.Toby
I have the Metzler's Marathon 880's front and rear on my Deuce.....and the stock Dunlops on my Street Glide. I like the Metzler's much better as far as wet traction goes.....they may not last as long as the Dunlops....but I dont give a rats *** about longevity when it comes to tires. There is no free lunch....the more traction=the softer the compound=quicker wear.....I'm fine with that.
Time will tell on the Dunlops.....chances are I will keep them on until I dont like the way they feel anymore, or someone hooks me up with a set of Metzler's at a real good price.
After my factory tire wore out at about 8,500 miles. I put a dunlop Elite three on it. It was intended for the goldwing and they weigh a good bit more. Very happy with the way it holds in all conditions. Got almost 8,000 on it now and still looks good and feels as good as new. A little bit stiffer sidewall but that don`t hurt anything.
Have always replaced my o.e.m. Dunlops with Metzeler 880's on my baggers, and NEVER had a problem . Have heard some people have Metz's made in Brazil and are a little nervous about them , but until I'm ready to replace my '07 Standard shoes I can't say . Unless I hear of any real or wide spread problems ,I intend to go with 880's again . They have always been good tires for me ! [sm=smiley31.gif]
I TOO WENT FROM DUNLOP TO METZLERS AND WAS HAPPY I DID...THAT SAID, IT DOESN'T MEAN IN THE FUTURE THAT ANOTHER COMPANY WON'T COME OUT WITH SOMETHING BETTER, BUT FOR NOW I BELIEVE METZLER 1S. I FOUND THE TIRES ARE LESS AFFECTED BY THE RUBBERIZED CRACK SEALER ON ASPHALT ROADS....THE TREAD PATTERN IS DIFFERENT AND THEY ARE GREAT TIRES IN THE RAIN. EVEN AT COLD TEMPERATURES YOU WILL FIND THEY'RE STICKY.....
WHEN IT COMES TO LIFE AND RIDING...
IT'S RARELY THE DESTINATION........BUT IT'S ALWAYS THE JOURNEY!!!!!
any good sources for the buy?? any recc on the brands??
If you are getting good mileage and handling out of the Dunlops then you might want to just stick with them.
As for tire sources, I use AmericanMotorcycle Tire. Good service, good prices and fast delivery.

I took Bill's advise myself. Got a new D402 for my Electra Glide a week ago.Fast service, best price around, and they accept paypal.
I'm going to stick with Dunlop myself. I've got 13,000 on the rear and it's still got meat on it, but I'd rather get new tread on it now since I ride two-up most of the time. I have no complaints about the Dunlops. They do tend to be twitchy on rain grooves and grated bridges, but that's no big deal. Wet weather traction is very good. The side walls are reinforced for the heavy load of a big touring bike including passenger and baggage. There are other brands like Metzler and Avon that grip better, but I'm not an aggressive rider and I would rather get the longer lasting tire. It's a trade off. Get a tire that suits you best. www.americanmototire.com
Only point I'd like to make was one that was mentioned in the last post: The Dunlops have VERY stiff sidewalls. I think that's one of the reasons that they're one of only two tires that are "approved" by H-D. If you should suffer a flat while at speed, you might be happy that they're so stiff, being that the bike is so heavy.
That being said, I've run Metzelers for many years on BMWs, and they are a top-notch tire (on BMWs; no experience with them on H-D). They are superb rain tires.
