Thank's for all the ride reports makes me want to do the trip now but I am going to do some research on the certification process and be ready to go this spring! I think I just wrote a compound sentence.

I have completed the following on a 1999 FLHTCUI

2 - Saddlesores (1000 miles< 24 hours)
[blockquote]
Oct 2003 - 1st SS - LeftPhoenix at 9:00 PM rode to Albuquerque for breakfast back to Phoenix for Dinner 1378 miles - 17 hours 20 min.
Oct 2004 - 2nd SS - part of the 50 CC[/blockquote]
1- Bunburner (1500 miles < 36 hours) Oct 2004 -part of 50 CC
1 - Saddlesore 2000 (2000 miles < 48 hours) Oct 2004 - part of 50 CC
1 - 50 CC (Coast to Coast < 50 hours) - San Diego, Ca to Tybee, Ga (2465 miles) 48 hours, 9 Min. Oct 2004

The worst part of the 50 CC is having to turn around on the next day and riding home. I rode each of these with a buddy riding a 1997 FLHTC.

I've donemany 1000-miledays.However, I never appliedfor a certificate, tee shirt, patchor whatever the IBA awards. Just seems too commercial.I'd rather ride on my own terms.

Picked up my new Ultra in April in Iowa, and with 10 miles on the odo, set off to my temporary work location in Toronto. Went the long way to make it an SS1000, and arrived 21 hours later. Weather was 55F when I left, hit 75F as I turned the southern corner in WVA, and crossed the border at 28F and blowing snow... Bike worked flawlessly "out of the box", though the local dealer couldn't believe I was having the first 1,000 mile service done 2 days after buying the bike!

Followed it up with a LakeHuron1000 in May, a LowerLakes1000 in June (bothare specialty SaddleSores for the Iron Butt), and capped it off with a BunBurner1500 around the Lower Great Lake and up to Sudbury and North Bay two weeks later.

Now I'm living in Europe and trying to talk my new riding buddies into taking up the LD craze come spring. Geneva to Prague and back is in the works for a European SS1000 as soon as riding season begins again. Can't wait to do it again!

You can do it either as necessity (Need to get from VA to Sturgisand back and only have a week) or as a zen thing (just because). Either way there is a magic out on the road but it's hard to find until you've been in the saddle for several hours.

Concur with the prep thing, but if your bike is set up for long haul comfort, all you really need is a credit card. Stay nourished and hydrated and enjoy the ride as the miles tick by. I usually bring a box of Energy bars and eat one or two at every gas stop along with a cold bottle of gatorade.I could go for hours.

Last IB was the Seal 160 in May: 1039 miles in about 16 hours.

When I finally have to stopit's a bummer because I really don't want it to be over. The 50CC discussed above sounds really cool!

Everyone should do an IB once.

Done a couple of SS1K. The riding ain't that hard but the weather can bite you in the butt. Hit two major snowstorms and heavy rain on the first one.

I did my first Saddlesore 1000 on a '97 Dyna Wide Glide, no windshield. It took me 20 hours; but, I got caught behind a lot of RVs on Rt 2 crossing New Hampshire and Vermont.

Do it! Did the SS1K back in august. Wasnt a hard ride, but hot as hell. Check the IBA web site for the ride prep stuff, good advice. They also have a list of IBA members that will be a witness for you.
