just for intercom, look at the motorola bluetooth headsets for helmets. they are mono but they link together so you dont need a phone to use them as an intercom. you can use a phone and play music on your phone over them.
personally I use chatterbox for an intercom. the volume sucks but I have a bad hearing loss. I got it off ebay for 40 bucks so I cant complain it serves the propuse and all me and the wife ride together is about 3 hours max a couple of times a year. I would use autocom or JMcorp if we road a lot two up.

Sounds like you can link these up with a Bluetooth GPS as well. Hmm, I may look into these.
Whilemany headset(including the HD) say that they won't work with a half helm, they do. I have my HD headset on a spare half helm(I just never really use it).
The HD headset is designed to sandwich to the edge of a full helm. Butyou can poke two tiny holes in the strap material on the side of the helm and bolt on the headset directly onto it. I use a small velcro strap to keep it from twisting.
I guess two little holes would be "modified" but I don't know how else you'd mount it to a half helm (unless you purchase a helm designed to hold the works....like the one J&M sells).

I would like to see a picture of your setup for the 1/2 helmet. I want to use the one that came with the bike but only use 1/2 helmets.
I use the HD setup and it clamps on fine to my half helmet. I use velcro to hold the ear pieces in place to the straps. This address has some half-helmet speaker holders as well as intercoms/mike sets: http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?cat=57&pg=2
Thx for your service,Godspeed and good luck. I got a set of Blueants a couple weeks ago and really like them. Cordless is the only way to go. Took a short ride with them last week and was pleased. We experienced a slight crackle but wasn't bad at all even at higher speeds.Got them on ebay for 100 bucks ea. Can't beat the price. Again, good luck and Thx.
I've got an Autocom system(my second one)you can do a lot with it and it's clear as a bell atany speed. Add FRS radio's and it becomes a bike to bike system, you can get the bluetooth adapter for a GPS,your phone can be hooked up,an Ipod can be used, best of all(at least in my case)I can also hook it up to the radio on my Road Glide and control the radio with the switces on my handelbars.
I had an Autocom before and didn't like the cords so I sold it and got a set of Bluetooth Interphones.the audio on them were terrible,Instead of talking we seemed to shout "what" to each other all the time. You could not ride more than about 4 hours without stopping to charge them or doing without the intercoms as they would have ran out of power.
I returned the Interphones and bought a new Autocom..I've got the cords again, but the quality of the system makes it worthwile to have.
BTW: TheInterphone service people were Very nice about the whole ordeal and I was able to return them for a full refund(minus shipping)

HERE ya go (not fancy, but it works fine).
Just two tiny holes in the side strap and a velcro strap.
Steer clear of Chatterbox brand stuff. Junk. I sent mine back and I have a friend that has it and it doesn't work worth a cr*p. I broke down and bought an Autocom system a few years ago for my Softail. It worked great. I was able to plug in my MP3 player or XM reciever for music. Has a jack for a cell phone. Music mutes 50% percent automatically when you talk. The unit was the size of a pack of cigarettes and I velcroed it to the bottom of my seat. If anyone is interested, I'm selling it along with three helmet setups. I don't need it anymore as I just got an Ultra Classic and of course it comes with an intercom.
