I purchased the saddlebag protector covers from HD, mounted the velcro strips inside the bag lids and waited the 24 hrs for the glue to dry like the instructions said last night. Tonight I tried to install the covers and I don't see any way those covers are going to stretch over the lids I tried like hell to stretch them and it just wont go, I even tried to warm them up with a hair dryer to thinking that might work but no luck. Is there some trick to this or is it possible I got a set not made right and is to tight.. The most trouble I'm have is going the long way and it seems like there about a 1/2 inch to short. I have now given up and said the heck with it.. Anyone have a trick to this I would appreciate it..
Mine fit very tight too. I heated mine with a heat gun and they stretched a bit. Once I got them on fairly well, I was able to stretch them a little more the next day. I did this a couple times and now they fit fairly well. Still have some wrinkles I'd like to get rid of. I almost gave up once like you too. They are a very tight fit. Keep trying!
I will problably wait until some warmer weather and do it in the sun, I will try again but I had all
I could take today. Glad it just wasn't me.. Thanks sifularson.
Hair Dryer - Warm the skins and they will stretch... attach to the velcro and do it again till they fit like a glove.... If it's a warm day (noted that ya live in Ca) just lay them out in the sun for awhile and it will work as good as the hair dryer...
I tried the saddlebag lid covers to protect the lids. The only thing I accomplished my giving my painter more of my hard earned money, it wore through the paint, and yes, I did have them on tight.
I agree with you, a long time ago I installed a nose bra on a car and it wore the paint out from the wind slapping on the the paint and yes it was a tight fit. I rather save the money dont install any type of cover and when it does get scratched have it repainted and yes it looks alot better with no covers IMHO.
I have had no problems with mine, did sit in the sun for awhile. Rubbing the paint has not been a problem. They have saved the paint from my me, my wife, her boots.
As others have said, I set mine out in the sun to heat 'em up first. Be forewarned, if it gets hot in your area as it does here in So Kali, the Velcro/glue WILL loosen and separate in high temperatures.
Thanks guys I may wait until summer and give it another try, I see how my liids look by then. I was also wonder about the wearing of the paint with them on. Guess I'm going to give this all some more thought.
