Default Amplifiers

I just purchased a 2006 streetglide with the harmon/kardon stereo. I keep reading threads about what amps to buy and that I can't
just go to best buy and buy an amp from them, something about 2 ohms. The amps I've read about require you to change speakers ??
Can't I just change speakers with an amp from best buy. Someone please explain.

Thanks

As of 06 (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong)the HD speakers and head unitare 2 omms, most amps you will find are 4 omms so you will need both 4omm speakers and amp or head unit. Hogtunes, Biketronics and a few others sell 2 omm speakers if you just want to upgrade the speakers. Biketronics, Hawgwired and Hogtunes are good places for info.I installed a Biketronics amp and Polk speakers (4 omm) in my SG a few weeks ago and am very happy.

Chuck make sure what ever speaker you buy they are marine rated. Like HOG tunes, J&M, what ever. They will get damaged otherwise in the rain. What speaker set-up do u have right now?

as long as the speakers are made of polypropolene (sp) which most if not all decent speakers are made of these days.

You will have to change them any way with an amp of decent power.

Use a decent amp with at least 200 watts for four channel or 150 watts for 2 channel---

you will have to look hard to find an amp that is going to fit in the fairing without costing you $500 or more.

If you are ok with putting the amp in the bags you choices are huge---Alpine slim line digital are the best amps going.

You may also want to check out the other major manufacturers like Pioneer, Kenwood, Blauput, etc.

So as long as the speaker ohms match the amp ohms I can get any amp I want, even with my stock harmon/kardon radio.

the ohms don't necessarily have to match --- it will be more efficient if they do-- you can use the stock HK radio the amp will be supplyingthe power to the speakers----what are trying to achieve with the amp?

Ok--here's a suggestion, if you don'twant to tear up the bags ---MB Quart 5 /14 speakers in the fainging, they can be found on ebay for less than $100 the power handling capacity is unbelievable, get this http://hawg-wired.com/product_info.php?products_id=37and a 150 - 200 watt two channel amp--that will fit in the cradle---your total set up will be less $350
