need help with tank float
Hey BigMack, I replaced a fuel pump on a 2000 Road King for a buddy of mine. On the 2000 RK the fuel pump, float, and fuel filteris a complete assembly.Disconnected the hoses and moved the assembly around alot till it came out. Had to pull a little also. It´s a tight fit. Not sure about a 2003RK
Isn't it hinged or something?
There was a recent article in American Iron that did a fuel filter change.
I seem to recall it saying something about lifting the assembly up slightly and using a screwdriver to open the hinge of the float.
Don't quote me though....I don't have the mag anymore, but thought this would help you maybe.

Cool, glad it helped.
This feeble little mind is still able to remember afew things I guess.
Now that you have it out,is it necessary to pop the entire spring or can it just be "opened"?
I'm curious as to what you'll need to do at reassembly.

I just changed the fuel filter on mine and in the process of trying to get the hoses off I broke the port of the fuel pump. It all was a pain in the you know what. Filter 90 bucks, Fuel pump 180 bucks. It is a tight fit coming out and gettin back in, makes u think something is not right. If you mess with the fuel pump BE CAREFUL, the hoses and factory clamps are on tight and pump can break easly. If I hadnt tried to replace the hoses I would have not broken the pump. Be careful you can damage the float easy. Its very sensitive.
